Is Your Kid Getting Enough Calcium?

Calcium plays an important role in bone development of kids in the growing age. In fact, Calcium is used to build teeth and bones. It also has its role in muscle function, nerve function, clotting blood, and also secreting certain enzymes.

Why do children need calcium? Well, their bones keep growing at that phase and they need enough of calcium supply.

When a kid is between 1 and 3 years, at least 700mg of calcium is required per day and when the kid is between 4 and 8 years, nearly 1000 mg is the daily recommended calcium intake.

Of course, you don't need to worry about those numbers as long as you supply enough of calcium-rich foods to your kid.

Some of the best sources are milk, cheese and yoghurt.

Certain reports claim that kids who drink more of soft drinks or other beverages drink less of milk. So, ensure that you keep soft-drinks away from your kid.

If your kid enjoys fruit salad, mix some yoghurt to it. The taste gets better and more calcium is supplied.

Allow your kid to play for a while in the sunlight as vitamin D enhances calcium absorption in the body.

In your recipes, include milk instead of water. Use milk in soup or cereal recipes so that more milk will go into your kid's body.

Prefer calcium fortified breads when you go to the supermarket. They have more calcium in them.

If your kid enjoys smoothies, add some milk powder to it. That can increase the nutritious value of it.
