During the game, Lord Shiva actually won, but the boy mistakenly declared Goddess Parvati as the winner. This happened several times. Angered by the incorrect judgement, Goddess Parvati cursed the boy, saying he would suffer from illness and helplessness.

The boy was frightened and begged the goddess for forgiveness. Seeing his regret, Goddess Parvati softened and told him that he could be freed from the curse if he observed the Sankashti Chaturthi fast and worshipped Lord Ganesha with devotion.

The boy followed her advice. On Sankashti Chaturthi, he kept a strict fast and prayed sincerely to Lord Ganesha until moonrise. Pleased with his devotion, Lord Ganesha removed the curse, restored his health, and blessed him with happiness and prosperity.
