Not All Fats Are Bad For You
With more and more people suffering from high cholesterol levels nowadays, people are under the impression that to stay healthy, we should avoid all types of fat. But this is not true. All kinds of fat are not unhealthy. There are certain good fats that are essential for the proper functioning of our body. You have to opt for the right kind of fat to stay healthy.
There are different types of fat. Saturated fat is found in cheese, butter, meat and fat found in chicken. They generally come from animal sources and people who eat high quantities of saturated fat increase their bad cholesterol or LDL. This type of fat is solid at room temperature.

Unsaturated fat is found in fish, avocados, olive oil, canola oil, and oil from nuts and seeds. It generally comes from vegetarian sources and increases the good cholesterol levels or HDL and lowers the bad cholesterol levels or LDL. These types of fat are liquid at room temperature. Consuming this type of fat is good for the health.

Tran fats are generally found in processed foods and margarine. This kind of fat is liquid at room temperature, but through the process of hydrogenation have been modified chemically to be solid at room temperature. They enhance the taste and structure of various products and improve their shelf life.
Trans fats are very bad for the health. They lower good cholesterol levels or HDL and increase bad cholesterol levels or LDL. Hence, they should be avoided at any cost. So, one should always consume unsaturated fat which generally comes from vegetarian sources to stay healthy.

Trans fat has been found to increase a person's chances of suffering from heart troubles and diabetes. On the other hand, olive oil, which is unsaturated fat has been found to decrease the rate of death in people who consume it. Again, people who consume butter, a saturated fat, are found to die early.
Hence, one should be very careful while eating fats. You have to choose the right ones for your health and include them in your diet.
