10 Surprising Reasons Why You Are Not Losing Weight Fast
If you are someone who has embarked on the journey to lose weight, but you are not seeing any results, it could lead to a lot of disappointment and frustration, right?
Well, as we may already know, losing weight is one of the hardest things to do, even for fitness professionals and nutritionists themselves!

Weight loss requires a lot of self-control and discipline. Without sticking to a strict diet and exercise regime, weight loss may not be possible at all.
In fact, being overweight or obese can lead to a number of health issues such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, joint pain, indigestion, depression, etc.
So, it is very important to make a conscious effort to lose weight, so that you can remain healthy for a longer time.
Now, many a times, even when you are following a strict diet and exercise regime, you may not be able to lose weight quickly.
Here are some surprising reasons on why you are not able to lose weight fast.

1. Not Tracking Your Diet
Many a times, when we are following a strict diet, we fail to keep a track of what we eat and how much we eat. When we keep a track of our dietary habits, it allows us to have a better insight on what foods are helping us lose weight and what foods are not. Also, it gives you a better idea about the quantity of food you are consuming, so that you can make alterations accordingly to enable faster weight loss.

2. Protein Deficient Diet
We notice that people trying to build muscle mass consume a protein-rich diet, right? However, many people trying to lose weight cut back on protein too, as they consume a low calorie diet. However, very less proteins in your diet can also slow down your metabolism and prevent faster weight loss. Lean meat, channa, pulses, spinach, etc., are some foods which are high in protein.

3. Low Quality Foods
Even if you are sticking to a strict diet and exercise regime, and still not losing weight, you must check the quality of foods you are consuming. Not consuming whole foods like whole wheat, whole grains, etc., and opting for processed versions of these foods can also lower your metabolism and prevent a quicker weight loss.

4. Avoiding Weight Training
Most people who want to lose weight know that they also have to indulge in regular exercise to help burn more calories, right? However, what many of us wouldn't know is that fact that doing just cardiovascular exercises like running, jogging, etc., it may not help you lose weight fast, so even weight training or lifting weights at the gym must also be done along with cardio, as weight lifting can boost your metabolism and enable quicker weight loss.

5. Binge Eating
When a person is on a diet, especially during the initial stages, he tends to experience a lot of hunger pangs, because the intake of food is suddenly reduced. Hunger pangs can lead to binge eating, later in the day, which is a very unhealthy habit and can prevent weight loss. Even binge eating on healthy foods can slow down weight loss.

6. Consuming Sugar
If you really want to lose weight quickly, the key point is to give attention to the small details in your regime, such as adding sugar to your beverages. We may feel that a couple of spoonfuls of sugar may not come in the way of weight loss; however, even a small quantity of white sugar can slow down your metabolism and prevent a faster weight loss.

7. Dehydration
It is noted by many surveys and research studies that people who are on strict diets often do not drink enough water because when you do not consume more food, your thirst levels can also decrease. Not consuming enough water can lead to dehydration and dehydration in turn can cause the metabolic rate to slow down and prevent weight loss. So, consciously drinking at least 2 litres of water per day is advised.

8. Medical Conditions
If you are having problems losing weight, in spite of doing all the right things like sticking to a diet and exercise regime, etc., then you could be suffering from certain medical conditions which hinder weight loss such as hormonal imbalances, thyroid, PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and so on. It is important to get these conditions treated and then attempt to lose weight.

9. Skipping Meals
Many people wanting to lose weight tend to skip meals thinking that it can help them lose weight faster; however, skipping means can slower your metabolic rate and inhibit a faster weight loss, although it may seem to work initially. Skipping meals can also lead to malnourishment.

10. Smoking
As we know, smoking even a couple of cigarettes in a day can lead to dangerous diseases. However, not many of us may know that smoking can inhibit weight loss. The nicotine content in cigarettes can enable the storage of more fat cells in the body, thus slowing down weight loss.
