Does Infertility Mean You'll Never Get Pregnant? Pregnancy Options For Infertile Couples
Infertility is a major issue that haunts couples nowadays. It is the inability to conceive or bear a child. Here are some pregnancy options for infertile couples.
Infertility is a major issue that haunts couples nowadays. It is the inability to conceive or bear a child. This is definitely on the rise which is very much evident from the increasing number of fertility clinics all over the world. The reasons are numerous for the problem.
It may include environmental factors, lifestyle, health issues, and of course age. It is not only the women who are affected by infertility, in fact, men are also subjects to it. In many cases, both the man and woman are reported to be infertile.

The news of infertility shatters the dreams of couples who keep trying to conceive desperately. The process of finding out the reason itself takes a toll on them. But this is not the end of the road in pregnancy.

There are various other options available out there. If one does not work, there are plenty others to try out. However, consulting a doctor at the earliest can determine the best suitable method to conceive. Read on to know the options that the medical sector provides to sort out the problem.

Fertility Drugs
This is the first choice to go for treatment of infertility. They are either injected or taken in the form of a pill. These drugs boost the production of eggs by releasing hormones thereby making the embryo more receptive to implantation. If this alone does not give the desired result, it is combined with IVF or artificial insemination.

Artificial Insemination
This is the easiest of all procedures available. A specially prepared sperm is injected directly into the uterus with the help of a catheter. The success rate is higher for artificial insemination than other methods after six cycles of treatment.
The procedure is so simple that it can be done in a doctor's office. It is suitable for people with low quality sperm or for women who produce antibodies to the sperm.

In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF)
Only a small percentage of couples go for IVF because it is pretty complex and expensive. It is a method where the embryo is formed outside the womb in a lab by combining eggs and sperm.
The formed embryo or embryos is then placed in the uterus of the mother. Babies born this way are called "test-tube babies". IVF is suggested for couples diagnosed with endometriosis, low sperm count, ovulation, fallopian tube, and uterus problems. This is the last option to be taken when other methods don't work.

Surrogacy
A third party is involved in this method of treatment. The baby is carried by a surrogate mother. This is done when a woman is incapable of carrying the baby due to diseases and other risk factors. Either artificial insemination or IVF is used here to make the surrogate mother pregnant.

Donor Eggs And Embryos
This is another case where a third person is involved. Embryos are got from couples undergoing IVF, provided they are pregnant.
The unused embryos are got from such people to be implanted in the uterus of the recipient. Otherwise, only the eggs are got from the ovaries of another woman and combined with the sperm of the recipient's partner to form embryos in the lab.

Reproductive Surgery
Anatomical abnormalities can also be the reason for infertility. This can be corrected with a surgery after which one can proceed with the pregnancy. This is best for couples suffering from endometriosis, block in the fallopian tube, or a problem with the testicles. The success rate cannot be determined here as it depends on the severity of the problem the couples face.

Intrafallopian Transfer
This method calls for placing the gamete or zygote directly into the fallopian tube. Gamete intrafallopian transfer takes place when the eggs and sperm are mixed and then placed in the tube, while in zygote intrafallopian transfer the embryo formed is placed in the tube. In the former method, fertilization occurs in a natural environment and in the latter one, it takes place in the laboratory.

Acupuncture
This is the new kid in the block though it has been in practice for ages. Reproductive specialists refer their patients who fail multiple times with IVF and other treatments to take up acupuncture.
It is an old Chinese medicine treatment which uses needles to stimulate the key energy points in the body from head to toe. On doing this, the body starts functioning in a better way than ever before making an infertile person fertile. Nowadays, acupuncture is suggested along with IVF treatment to better the success rate of pregnancy.
