World Sleep Day 2023: 4 Reasons Why Babies Don’t Sleep At Night
World Sleep Day is observed every year on the Friday before the northern hemisphere vernal equinox, and this year (2023), the day falls on 17 March.
Organised by the World Sleep Day Committee of the World Sleep Society, formerly the World Association of Sleep Medicine, World Sleep Day was first observed in 2008.
The theme for World Sleep Day 2023 is "Sleep is Essential for Health."

The day is observed to celebrate the benefits of good and healthy sleep and raise awareness of the burden of sleep problems and the associated medical, educational and social aspects. In addition, World Sleep Day also focuses on promoting the prevention and management of sleep disorders.
In the event of world sleep day 2023, let's check out the reasons why babies don't sleep at night.
Reasons Why Babies Don't Sleep At Night
The following are some of the reasons why some babies are awake during the night, as well as some remedies to help you get your baby back to sleep.
1. The baby is hungry
As your newborn doesn't eat much in one feeding, if you're breastfeeding, the milk is digested quickly [1].
This means a baby can wake up hungry and ready to eat. Babies often wake at night due to hunger, which is not healthy to change or retrain. Babies need food to grow, so it is not healthy to try and change or retrain this need.
It is important to check to see if your baby needs food, even if you have just fed him or her a couple of hours earlier. Thirst is another common reason why babies wake up so early. A cup of breast milk or formula may be sufficient to alleviate their discomfort.

2. The baby may be unwell
Almost always, there is something going on with a newborn's body, and much of it is uncomfortable.
There are many possible causes of a baby waking up often at night, including teething, a cold, allergies, gas, or constipation. Check with your paediatrician if you suspect pain or allergies may be a contributing factor [2].
3. The baby does not know whether it is night or day
When your baby begins sleeping on a day/night reversal schedule, he or she sleeps well during the day and is awake and occupied during the night. It is frustrating and exhausting, however, it is only temporary [3].
4. The baby needs you
In some cases, babies are so in love with their parents that they cannot sleep. They want to know what you are doing and they want to play with you. It has been found that sleeping in the same room allows parents to rest while their baby feels close [4].

On A Final Note...
During the first few months of your newborn's life, he or she may be awake at night for short periods. It may seem like an eternity when you are exhausted, but it usually lasts for just a few days or weeks.
Talk to your child's doctor if you suspect your child is experiencing an undiagnosed illness or allergy.
