9 Reasons Why Valentine's Day Is Overrated
February 14th has become synonymous with Valentine's Day the world over. It is said that the holiday started during the times of Geoffrey Chaucer, the father of English literature. In 18th century England it grew into an occasion on which lovers expressed their love for each other with gifts and flowers. Greeting cards were sent out by each couple to signify love. The greetings were called 'Valentines'. Though it seems quite romantic and all, we will tell you why Valentine's Day is overrated.
8 Mantra's To Make Your Valentine's Day Special
To begin with, it's quite stupid to have a day for love. What is that even supposed to mean? Love isn't about a single day. It is meant for a lifetime. Love isn't all that glossy, though it does have its moments. There wont be a shower of rose petals every time you set your foot on the ground. There will be thorns and other weed too.
Nowadays Valentine's Day is a money making holiday to attract people who are still in the Christmas/New Year daze. Pricey gifts, extravagant getaways and lots of chocolates have become a inseparable part of it. The materialistic focus has made it quite overrated.
Read on as we tell you why valentine's day is overrated.

Makes The Singles Feel That Somethings Wrong With Them
Valentine's Day thinks of singles as pathetic lowlifes, who have no life whatsoever. "Come fall in love...." and similar banners make it seem as if singles are just waiting to fall in love and other fallacies. Valentine's Day is overrated because it makes the singles feel that something is wrong with them, when it's clearly not!

Stress Is A Byproduct Of All The Planning
Love is pretty simple. But Valentine's Day makes couples go out of their way to plan the perfect day for each other. They buy expensive gifts, book the posh hotel and order the priciest of wines just to prove their love! When in love, every day is supposed to be special. You don't prove it on one specific day and hope they remember it until the next Valentine's Day!

Thoughtlessly Commercialised
On Valentine's Day every couple is proclaiming their undying love for each other from roof tops. Not to forget all the greetings, chocolates, cakes and the expensive jewellery, bought with the hopes of making a grand statement. Valentine's Day is overrated because it has been thoughtlessly commercialised and it's just pathetic.

Public Display Of Affection Everywhere
February 14th is a day when all the cafés, the pubs and local hotels are all hijacked by couples. You turn your head to any nook and corner, you will find a coochie cooing couple holding hands and stealing kisses. Now you know why some singles and Valentine's Day don't go hand in hand!

Leaves A Hole In Your Pocket
There are several expenses in a year. Birthdays, anniversaries, ceremonies and whatnot. Add Valentine's Day to the list and you have another reason for that burning hole in your pocket. If just one day wasn't enough they made it a whole week now, calling it Valentine's week! Now you know why it is overrated.

A Feeling Of Equality Is Lost
Not to be unfair to the women but Valentine's Day does make gender stereotype acceptable on that particular day. Men are expected to call in early to book the tables, get the flowers and surprise the girl. So valentine's day is not only overrated
but also against gender equality.

Whole Town Is Painted Red
Don't get us wrong. We love red! But it's just pathetic to see the whole town in red. The roses are red, dresses are red and even some of the guys are dressed in red! Valentine's day is a stupid holiday where nearly every couple is dressed in red.

Pubs Are Only For Couples
This is the greatest disservice to singles! Most of the clubs and pubs have a couple's theme night and the singles just have to drink and watch on in silence. There are some pubs which just turn away the singles, not even allowing them inside for a drink.

Cupid Looks Stupid!
Cupid is mainly associated with Valentine's day, as he is the Roman God of love. Though he is usually shown as a small, naked baby with a bow and arrow, in actuality it is a naked, man-child with wings sprouting out of his back. Valentine's Day is a farce which is celebrated world over with great pomp and show.
