Lal Hit Janta Party Explained: Who Is Behind The Rival to the Cockroach Janta Party
A new group with an insecticide-inspired name has entered an already unusual political contest. The Lal Hit Janta Party (LHJP) held its first membership meeting in Delhi on Sunday, positioning itself against the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and that group's campaign for the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
What Is The Lal Hit Janta Party?
The LHJP was launched at a meeting at Malviya Smriti Bhawan in New Delhi. Its name is a tongue-in-cheek reference to a popular insecticide brand, mirroring the satirical naming of the CJP. Convenor Ayan Bhatnagar and filmmakers Richa Gupta, Pawan Nagpal and Atul Gangwar addressed the gathering.
Bhatnagar gave the group's motto as "Nation First, Respect for the Constitution, Democracy as Our Identity." He has said repeatedly that the Lal Hit Janta Party was not formed to contest elections.
What The Group Says It Wants
Delhi: Lal Hit Janta Party convenor Ayan Bhatnagar says, "The Lal Hit Janta Party was not formed to contest elections, as we have already made clear. We stand against CJP and its protests. We oppose cockroaches who want to weaken the countrys democracy and attempt to create anarchy in the country. We will gather in different groups, on both large and small scales, present our views and arguments, and take our message forward. We will show them that a party like the Lal HIT Janta Party now exists to challenge them. If you have the courage, come and debate. If you win, it will be your victory, and if we win, it will be ours."

According to reports, the outfit stressed the independence of constitutional institutions such as the Election Commission and urged that public debate on electoral processes rest on verified evidence. Speakers targeted the CJP, the Congress and protesters, alleging that the recent protests questioned constitutional institutions and caused losses to businesses. One outlet's headline put the claimed loss at Rs 3,000 crore, a figure attributed to the group and not independently verified here.
Bhatnagar also said the meeting was meant to show the group could mobilise people at short notice, and that it had support from people in Canada and the United Arab Emirates. The party plans to continue by gathering in different groups and presenting its arguments.
The Cockroach Janta Party And Its Demand
The CJP was launched online on 16 May 2026 by political communications strategist Abhijeet Dipke as political satire. Its name refers to remarks by the Chief Justice of India and parodies the name of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Dipke has said the group is not affiliated with any political organisation and aims to serve young Indians who feel left out of mainstream politics.
Its current protests demand Kumar's resignation over alleged voter roll irregularities linked to the special intensive revision, an exercise through which the Election Commission is removing dead, duplicate and otherwise ineligible voters. On Saturday, 10 October, Dipke and two other leaders were detained, and later released on the condition of no breach of peace for one year.
Why The Contest?
The dispute over the Chief Election Commissioner predates both groups. Opposition members submitted notices in Parliament seeking Kumar's removal, which the presiding officers declined to admit in April. His appointment had also drawn a dissent note from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
For now, the Lal Hit Janta Party is a newly formed group with a stated defence of constitutional institutions and no electoral ambitions. Whether it grows beyond its first meeting remains to be seen. Readers following the story will find the most reliable picture in verified reports and official statements from the Election Commission.
