In the recent years, green tea won good reputation. Many claim that green tea can even prevent cancer, hypertension and diabetes. Putting aside those claims, let us focus on one question: does green tea help you lose weight fast?
There is no doubt that drinking green tea instead of a cup of coffee is healthier. Well, the reason is quite simple here. It contains antioxidants.

What Does It Contain?
Green tea contains: Vitamins A, B, B5, D, E, C, K, H, Selenium, Chromium, Zinc, Caffeine and Manganese. Also, it contains a compound called EGCG (epigallocatechin-3-gallate).

Green Tea And Body Heat
Your body naturally generates heat. This heat is part of the overall metabolism. So, when you drink a cup of green tea, there may be a slight increase in your body temperature.
An increase in temperature might mean higher expenditure of energy which means, more calories are burned. When more calories are burned it would lead to weight loss. So, green tea speeds up your metabolism. A substance called as EGCG is responsible for this.

Caffeine Content
Also, green tea has caffeine in it (around 30 mg per cup). As caffeine is said to stimulate and enhance performance in a work out, some claim that green tea indirectly helps lose weight.
A study claims that men who consume green tea and also workout can burn fat 15% more than those who don't drink green tea but workout. People who don't workout but drink green tea can burn fat 3% more than those who don't drink it. A study also says that green tea boosts certain hormones which burn fat.

Conclusion
Yes, green tea burns fat. But, relying solely on green tea for weight loss never works because the results are negligible. But if you workout and include green tea then you might see noticeable results.
