Foods That Cause Dark Stools

Did you know that your poop can tell a lot about your health? The shape and color of movements differ from person to person. The colour of your poop gives warning signs to your health conditions. So, whenever you see some change in the colour of your stool, you should not ignore.
When the gastrointestinal tract does not function properly, it gives signs through the change in the colour of the stool. For example, green and dark brown or black stool are warning signs of bad health. Most of the times, the colour of the stool changes because of the the foods you eat. For example, if you eat a lot of beets, your stool as well as urine will become red in colour. Similarly, eating a lot of green vegetables can make your stool green in colour. Moreover, the poop becomes green in colour when you suffer from diarrhoea as well.

However, sometimes you see dark black or brown coloured stool which smell bad as well. There are many foods that can cause dark stools. Although the colour of the stool can signal health conditions, you need to first focus on your diet and find out which food is causing a change in your poop colour.

Foods That Cause Dark Stools:

Junk Foods
Eating a lot of junk food results in a change int eh colour of the poop. If you eat a lot of junk food, your stool colour changes to dark brown or black in colour. Junk food takes time to break down and can cause weight gain as well. So, better control the intake of junk food items.

Blueberries
A lot of studies have shown eating lots of blueberries can darken the stool. Basically, foods that are dark blue, black, or green in colour cause dark stool.

Dark Vegetables
From green leafy vegetables to the dark beetroot, foods ranging in dark colours can bring a change in the colour of your poop.

Caffeine
Drinking too much caffeine is bad for the overall health. It leads to dehydration due to water retention and also darkens the stool. If you drink too much coffee or have caffeine rich foods, then your stool will harden as well.

Sugary Drinks
Like junk foods, sugar-rich drinks also cause dark stool. Moreover, having too much sugar rich foods also cause bloating, gastritis and weight gain as well.

Beef
Iron rich foods are one of the major causes of dark stool. Having too much iron can darken the stool colour. Moreover, if you are anaemic or pregnant, iron supplements can darken the stool.

Kidney Beans
Kidney beans are rich in iron which shows its affect on the colour of the bowel movement.

Prunes
Over consumption of prunes can change the colour of bowel movements. If your stool darkens after consuming prunes, then restrict its consumption.
