Ways To Keep Your Kidneys Healthy
In order to keep a body working in excellent condition, all parts must function in the best possible manner. Any malfunction in one part directly affects the other parts as well. And when it is something like the kidney, the concerns will be great. To ensure smooth functioning of the organs of the body, we need to adopt ways to keep kidneys healthy.
What are kidneys and why are they so important? The kidneys are two bean shaped organs that are just about the size of an average human fist. Located just below the rib cage on either side of the spine, they are involved in some of the most important functions for the body. The kidney plays an important role in cleansing the body off various toxins. Not everything consumed by the body is required. It is the duty of the kidneys to filter toxins, urea and extra salts. Urine production is a key function of the kidneys. As per this function, it regulates and balances the water level in the body. Besides these two important functions, the kidneys also play a very important role in regulation of blood pressure, red blood cells and acids in the body.
Caring for kidneys
People are born with two kidneys but it is also possible to live with one. The kidneys face various toxins in their day-to-day functioning and are quite susceptible to problems. Following a few health tips can take care of these precious organs and hence, you can live a healthy life. Take a look.
Exercise: The importance of exercise can never be undermined. No matter what body part we talk about, the key to keep it in perfect condition is to exercise. Make no excuses as there cannot be a greater concern than health. Make exercise an integral part of your routine.
Medical tests: Regular medical checkups after the age of 30 help keep track of the body's health. Consult your doctor and get these tests done on an annual basis to see to it that the kidneys are functioning to their best. This becomes even more important if you have a family history of kidney diseases.
Diet control: What you eat is in your hands. The consumer market has a variety of food items up for sale but you must make a wise choice. As far as possible, eat clean. Have freshly cooked food without artificial flavouring. Try to stay away for pre-cooked packaged food items.
Blood pressure under control: Since kidneys are involved in the regulation of blood pressure, it is important to keep it well within control. High blood pressure can lead to kidney damage.
Blood sugar in control: Diabetes and kidney health are closely related. Maximum diabetic patients are known to develop kidney problems. Maintaining healthy blood sugar levels is one of the ways to keep kidneys healthy.
Lots of water: An adequate intake of fluids ensures that the kidneys are able to function smoothly. Too little water and fluids can put unnecessary pressure on the kidneys leading to health problems.
Quit smoking: Smoking slows down the flow of blood to the kidneys which can cause adverse situations in the functioning of the body. Quit smoking to allow free flow of blood to the kidneys and hence, smooth functioning of body parts.
No over-the-counter pills: You are not a doctor neither is the salesman at the medical store. If you ever have to take any medicine, make sure to consult a doctor first. You never know what medicine can cause what effect.
