Ways To Avoid Dehydration On Holi
There is a famous saying in Hindi, ‘Bura na mano Holi hai'. It basically means that on the day of Holi you must not take offence to anything because it is day for celebration. But your body does take offence to certain things. For example, dehydration is fairly common while playing Holi. You do not have to stop celebrating Holi to avoid dehydration. There are some very simple remedies for dehydration that will help you.
If you remember certain basic points then it is very easy to avoid dehydration during Holi. First of all always remember that Holi is in March and the Indian summer has already begun by this time. So you need to keep your body hydrated, which is the simplest way to avoid dehydration on the festival of colours. Other remedies for dehydration include not going out in direct sunlight and keeping the body salts up.
The basic idea is that you need to keep drinking fluids in order to keep your body hydrated. The fluids may be anything, plain iced water or the notorious thandai. Here are some easy ways to avoid dehydration during Holi. Be safe and enjoy the festival of Holi responsibly.
Keep Sipping Water
It is not enough to play with water. You need to keep drinking water too. Make sure you have a glass of water after every hour when you are out in the sun.
Have Thandai
Thandai without bhang is a healthy drink. It has milk, almonds and dry fruits that will give you fluids to keep you hydrated as well as energy to play Holi.
Don’t Play In Direct Sunlight
It is always better to avoid the wrath of the harsh summer sun. Always prefer to play in a shady place or have your lawn covered with a tent.
Don’t Drink Tea Or Coffee
With all the water and and colours, you might be feeling slightly feverish. But do not drink tea or coffee to get some warmth. Both these beverages contain caffeine that will dehydrate your body.
Have Sweets and Snacks
Keep munching on sweets and snacks along with water and fluids. This is because when you are dehydrated, you lose salts from the body along with water. Those salts too need to be replenished.
Don’t Have Fried Foods
When we said snacks, we meant healthy snacks. Do not gorge on deep fried snacks because the make you thirsty and cause acidity.
Have Juices
Fresh fruit juices are the best means to avoid dehydration. Get yourself some sugarcane or watermelon juice to stray hydrated.
Drink Coconut Water
In India, tender coconut water is a very famous drink for summer. And the best part is that it is easily available.
Do Not Drink Alcohol
You might think that a can of chilled beer will keep you hydrated. However, you are mistaken. Alcohol in any form dehydrated your body.
Don’t Have Sodas Or Aerated Drinks
Sodas and cold drinks are the worst causes of dehydration during summers. Do not depend on these aerated drinks to keep you hydrated.
