Menstrual Cramp - Can It Be Reduced?

By Super Admin

If Eve knew that eating a single apple could cause such severe cramps every month she wouldn't have taken the chance. While the deed is done it's not worth to brood over it, but find a way out to reduce the sting.

Menstrual cycle is a constant phase in every woman's life. It is caused, when the thickened uterine lining and extra blood starts to shed, through the vaginal canal, while the oestrogen and progesterone level in a woman's body are the lowest. Some women experience slight or severe abdominal pain, lower back pain, mood swings and even swollen breasts.

For years women have been trying different methods to surpass these problems. Some of them are here.

An extra glass of water everyday especially before your period can reduce bloating.

When you are having pensive abdominal pain, boil cumin seeds in plain water. Drink it after its cold. This keeps your tummy cool.

Some women prefer taking sleeping pills, as they do not feel the pain when they are in deep slumber.

Heating pads and hot bath can give a little comfort to the body. But do not over heat the pad that may lead to red spots on the body later.

Doctors suggest taking painkillers, this does reduce pain, but the side effects are not known. Some experience heavy flow, with the popping of pills. It is better to consult the gynecologist and take that suits your body needs. Using oral contraceptives is another method. Women, who use it, rarely suffer from menstrual cramps. Contraceptives even are good help to reduce acne, normalize the menstrual cycle if it is irregular. You are less likely to get anemia. It even reduces the risk of cancer during the later years. But, the pill has its own flaws too. For some women, it may increase or decrease weight, nausea, headache, spotting and mood swings. Not to worry as this will be only during the first three to four cycles. Again use the one that fits your body. Its best to consult the gynecologist.

About 50 milliliters of blood is lost every month during menstruation. This is the cause of iron deficiency in most women. Doctors recommend eating small quantities of nutritious food containing iron, at frequent intervals. A lot of food causes blood sugar to swing up and down, which may affect premenstrual problems.

The sanitary napkins should be changed often. The use of the same napkin for long is un- hygienic. Other menstrual products are, tampons, padettes and disposable menstrual cups.

Whether you like it or not this is the phase that every woman should crossover. Do not sink and say why we? Technology is trying to be helpful. Few years ago, America came up with a pill that could nearly eliminate your periods. But as research continues lets wait and see whether Eve is forgiven.... till then lets use the above methods.
