Foods To Stay Awake At Night: Sleep Day Spl

Today, the 15 of March is celebrated as World Sleep Day. While we are all for sound and restful sleep, sometimes it becomes important to stay awake at night. For such occasions when you have to stay awake, you need foods that prevent sleep. If you have to study before the exams or work throughout the night, you need to eat foods that help you stay awake.
Foods to stay awake has some distinct characteristics. The most important feature of foods that prevent sleep is that they must be low-glycemic or have less sugar. Sugar gives you instant energy that goes away as quickly as it comes. As soon as the sugar 'high' subsides, your body craves for sugar and you feel 'low' or sleepy. That is why foods to stay awake at night must not contain sugar.
Iron rich foods are also good to prevent sleep. Iron increases the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood, thus gives more energy to the brain. Thus apple, spinach and broccoli are foods that help you stay awake. Caffeine is not the healthiest option but it is surely the best food to stay awake.

Coffee
Caffeine present in beverages like coffee stimulates the brain to stay alert. This stimulant helps you stay awake at night. But, too much coffee can cause permanent sleep disorders.

Eggs
Eggs have very high amounts of choline that speeds up metabolism so that your have energy reinforcements very soon.

Sugar-Free Tea
Tea has caffeine and traces of nicotine too. But you must drink black tea without sugar to stay awake. Sugar gives you instant energy but makes you feel sleepy after a while.

Whole Grains
Whole grains keep you full but they have very low sugar content, and thus do not hive you sugar cravings. Grains also have Vitamin B complex that is required to keep the brain alert.

Banana
Fruits are the best foods when you want to stay awake. Banana gives you instant energy to work at night.

Tofu
Tofu is the best source of healthy proteins for vegans. Tofu has amino acids and is not heavy on your stomach. So it helps you stay awake and light.

Chicken Soup
When you want to stay awake, you must have only lean meat. Chicken soup is warm and full of healthy amino acids that do not add sugar to your blood.

Walnuts
Walnuts have loads of omega-3 fatty acids that give you much needed energy to stay awake and alert.

Beans
To stay awake, your nerves must convey the signals to and from your brain. Beans are rich in Vitamin B12 that are required for the alertness of the central nervous system.

Tomatoes
Tomatoes are citrus and therefore high in Vitamin C. Raw tomatoes give you a burst of energy and help you combat sleepiness.

Avocado
Fruits that are not sweet are ideal to keep you awake and fresh. Avocado has very little sugar content and thus keeps you awake.

Apple
Iron helps your body create more red blood cells that increases the oxygen carrying capacity of your blood. When more oxygen reaches different parts of your body, you can stay awake for longer. Apples are rich in iron and thus good food to prevent sleep.

Drink Water
When your body is hydrated, you naturally feel more energetic. This is because water also speeds up metabolism to give you more energy. So have 4 litres of water in a day to avoid sleepiness.

Cheese
Cheese has lots of thyamine in it. Thyamine stimulates the body to release hormones that are essential for keeping the brain alert. The older the cheese, the more thyamine it contains.

Raisins
Just like cheese, raisins also have loads of thyamine. That is why, they make great snacks when you are staying awake at night.
