Tamil actor Karthik Sabesh passed away at the age of 37 following health complications, with reports confirming his death in Chennai on October 20, 2026. He had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital after being unwell for some time.
According to media reports, he had been hospitalised for around two months and was receiving treatment, including dialysis. His death comes just days after the passing of his uncle, veteran music composer Deva, on October 17, adding to the grief of a family with a long association with Tamil cinema.
Who Was Karthik Sabesh?
Karthik Sabesh was an Indian actor known for his supporting roles in Tamil films. He made his acting debut with 'Dreams' in 2004, a film starring Dhanush. Over the years, he appeared in several Tamil productions, building a filmography that included comedy and supporting characters.
His film credits include 'Vallavan' (2006), 'Kulir 100°' (2009), 'Kaadhal Solla Vandhen' (2010), 'Udhayam NH4' (2013), 'Pattathu Yaanai' (2013), 'Oru Kanniyum Moonu Kalavaanikalum' (2014), 'Burma' (2014) and 'Mahabalipuram' (2015). He also appeared in the Telugu film 'Thakita Thakita' (2010). While he did not frequently play lead roles, his appearances made him part of several Tamil film productions across the 2000s and 2010s.
Karthik Sabesh's Family And Connection To Tamil Cinema
Karthik Sabesh came from a family with deep roots in the South Indian film industry. His father, music composer Sabesh, was one half of the composer duo Sabesh-Murali, alongside his brother Murali. The duo worked on films including 'Samuthiram', 'Thavamai Thavamirundhu' and 'Imsai Arasan 23am Pulikesi'. He was also the cousin of Tamil actor Jai.
Karthik was also the nephew of Deva, widely known as 'Thenisai Thendral', whose work included music for popular Tamil films such as 'Baasha', 'Annamalai' and 'Aasai'. Deva died on October 17, 2026, aged 75. Karthik's father had died in October 2025, making his passing another significant loss for the family within a year.
Karthik is survived by his wife, Ramya Karthik, and their two daughters. His death at 37 marks the loss of an actor whose career formed part of Tamil cinema's supporting cast, while his family continues to mourn the passing of two generations of its members.
