Matar Pulao Recipe: How To Make Green Peas Pulao

The matar pulao is a popular one-pot meal that is prepared across the country with slight variations. The main ingredients used are peas, basmati rice and whole spices. The aroma of the spices cooked with the sweetness of the peas will make your mouth water and this is a feast for both the eyes and the stomach.
The green peas pulao is a simple and quick, yet a delicious, meal and is a definite one to go in the lunch box for children and adults. It can also be a part of an elaborate dinner. In South Indian weddings, matar pulao is a mandatory part of the wedding buffet or sometimes even served for breakfast.
The peas pulao is usually paired with raita, pickle and papad. Some people like to eat it with dal too, to add more flavour to it. Oil - 2 tbsp
Badiyan (Star anise) - 2
Elaichi (cardamom) - 3 pods
Dalchini (cinnamon sticks) - 3-4
Laung (cloves) - 4-5
Onions (sliced) - 3 small-size
Dried red chillies - 2 medium size
Peas (soaked) - 1 medium-sized bowl
Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Garam masala - 1 tsp
Garlic paste - 1 tsp
Ginger paste - 1 tsp
Chilli powder - 1 tsp
Basmati rice (soaked) - 2 cups
Water - 4 cups

1. Add oil to a pressure cooker.
2. Add star anise, elaichi, cinnamon sticks and laung into the cooker.
3. Once it splutters, add onions and saute it until it turns golden brown.
4. Add the dried red chillies and saute.
5. Add the soaked peas and turmeric powder.
6. Further, add salt and garam masala and mix everything well.
7. Add garlic and ginger paste.
8. Then, add chilli powder, water and the soaked rice.
9. Mix well and pressure cook it for up to 2 whistles.
10. Serve hot.
- 1. The basmati rice should be soaked for about 10-15 minutes before cooking.
- 2. The green peas should also be soaked for about 10 minutes.
- 3. You can add potato, according to your preference.
- 4. The rice should not be over-cooked, otherwise it can become mushy. Make sure the rice is separated, after cooking.

STEP BY STEP - HOW TO MAKE MATAR PULAO
1. Add oil to a pressure cooker.
