Jeera aloo recipe is a simple and commonly prepared dish in all parts of India. This dish is made by simply stir frying the boiled potatoes with cumin seeds and other spices. Aloo jeera fry is a delicious side-dish that goes well with rotis and rice.

Oil - 1 tbsp
Asafoetida (hing) - ¼th tsp
Cumin seeds (jeera) - 2 tsp
Boiled potatoes (peeled and cut into cubes) - 2 large
Salt to taste
Kashmiri chilli powder - 1½ tsp
Turmeric powder - ¼th tsp
Coriander powder - 2 tsp
Dry mango powder (amchur) - 1 tsp
Garam masala - 1 tsp
Dried fenugreek leaves (kasuri methi) - for garnishing

1. Pour oil into a heated pan.
2. Add asafoetida and cumin seeds and allow it to splutter.
3. Then, add the boiled potatoes and stir well for about 2 minutes.
4. Further, add salt, kashmiri chilli powder and turmeric powder.
5. Add coriander powder and amchur; and mix thoroughly.
6. Lastly, add the garam masala powder and mix well.
7. Garnish it with kasuri methi.
- 1. Make sure the boiled potatoes are only half cooked. If they are overcooked, these can turn too mushy.
- 2. You can add onion and garlic to enhance the flavour.
- 3. You could even add lemon juice instead of the dry mango powder to give this dish a tangy flavour.
