Post-partum Depression Prevention Tips -

  • Have healthy and filling food. If you cannot prepare, ask your hubby to bring some for both of you. If you got someone to prepare food, even better. Get the food delivered to your room! There are several easy recipes available on the net, check out for simple ones. Keep aside crash diets.
  • Ensure that you get your omega 3 fatty acids, proteins, vitamins and vitamin B (riboflavin), these help reduce symptoms of postnatal depression. Have at least a glass of water before you sit to feed the baby. This increases milk supply, thus ensuring your baby is well-fed. A well-fed baby is a happy baby and a happy baby means happy mother.
  • Get enough sleep. Sleeping when the baby's awake is almost impossible. Sleep with the baby. This way your baby too gets the sleep he requires for his growth.
  • Remember that you are resting for a while. Focus all your thoughts on your child and yourself. You cannot become a complete mother in a couple of days. Take time and do not rush. Do not let thoughts of work interfere with your daily baby / self care routine.
  • Discuss with your family or friends if you notice anything strange about yourself. The internet is a great way to meet new mothers. Enroll into such groups and share your concerns.
  • Shopping is any woman's best-friend. Request some one to babysit for a while, even as less as an hour. Shop for yourself, your baby or even your hubby. Take your baby to a neighbourhood park, where you can meet your friend.

Take action, the moment you notice any post-partum depression symptoms. Do remember that your good physical and mental health contribute towards overall positive development of your baby.
