Easy Tips To Maintain Cotton Sarees

Cotton is always comfortable and warm. The more you wash the softer it becomes, so maintaining the crispness needs smart thinking. Look for the simple tips to maintain and keep your cotton sarees and salwars as new as ever.
Tips To Maintain Cotton Sarees -
1. When you wash the sarees for the first time, soak the sarees in warm water mixed with rock salt for 10-15 minutes. This locks the saree color and will not allow the saree to fade even after subsequent washes.
2. Adding Soap Nuts (also referred to as Washing Nuts or Ritha) in water and then soaking cotton sarees will condition the sarees and keep it fresh for long.
3. Adding a liquid starch that is available in stores can keep your sarees crisp and stain free. You can also make a homemade liquid starch.
You Will Need:
- Water
- Corn Starch
- A Bottle (Preferably A Spray Bottle)
Homemade Starch Procedure:
Mix a teaspoon of cornstarch with two cups of water (disssolve starch completely). Add to the bottle and shake well before use. The homemade starch will naturally maintain stiffness of the cotton sarees.
For Thicker cotton sarees and blouses (with cotton lining), add some more cornstarch (about a teaspoon more). It is best to store the starch liquid in the refrigerator.
4. Rinse the sarees thoroughly in water as the starch may appear like a stain on sarees. Dry the sarees in shade.
5. Iron sarees when dry and use hangers to keep the cotton sarees wrinkle free for a long time. If you are ironing sarees, use dry iron as it is the best.
