Could The Fasting Diet Help You Lose Weight?
Fasting is an age-old practice that has been followed in India for religious purposes. But nowadays, a lot of people fast only for losing weight. They believe that not eating anything throughout the day will help them lose weight.
Medical practitioners say that it is true that initially fasting helps to lose weight, but only on a short-term basis. But there are a number of risks and hazards associated with it. In the long run, fasting for weight loss can cause a lot of harm.

People suffering from chronic diseases, the elderly, children and pregnant women should refrain from fasting or it can prove to be fatal. Generally, traditional fasting for religious practices usually lasts for twenty four hours with the people fasting not having anything or having only liquid or having fruits and sweets with liquid.

Fasting of this type is fine if you have sound health conditions. However, fasting for more than twenty four hours without food or water can prove to be dangerous. When you fast, you do lose weight, but the initial weight loss is only because of the water that you lose and not fat. So when you stop fasting, you will start putting on weight again.

When you start fasting, your body starts burning calories slowly as it goes into a conservation mode. Hence, people start to gain weight at a rapid rate. This can also cause muscle loss, dizziness, low blood sugar levels, headaches, muscle aches and pains, weakness and fatigue.

Hence, medical practitioners agree that fasting for weight loss is very dangerous and not very effective in weight loss. Instead, to lose weight, eat healthy meals comprising of lean protein, healthy fats, whole grains and fruits and vegetables and exercise regularly.
