Reasons Why Quinoa Is A Superfood
You can trace the origins of Quinoa to the ancient times. They were discovered by the Incas and was called "Gold of the Incas". This superfood got its very first nickname due to the fact that it helped increase the stamina of the Inca warriors.
Quinoa is often referred as a super grain, because of its high quality protein and fibre content. It contains more protein than any other grain, and also packs in iron and potassium. Quinoa is a small grain that can be cooked similarly to rice, with a nutty flavour and light, fluffy texture. Here are the reasons why quinoa is considered to be a superfood.

High Fibre Content
The amount of fibre present in quinoa is almost twice as much as the fibre obtained from other grains. Fibre has been known to relieve constipation, lower glucose levels, reduces high blood pressure, reduces diabetes and lowers the risk of heart disease.

High Protein Content
Quinoa is one of the most protein-rich foods that are available. It is a complete and high quality protein as it contains all nine essential amino acids.

Lose Weight
Incorporating quinoa into your diet is a great way to lose weight and keep the excess kilos off. This is because quinoa makes you feel fuller for longer and is less "energy dense," which means it has fewer calories for the same volume of food.

High Iron Content
Quinoa also has a high iron content, which means it helps in various bodily functions like aiding in neurotransmitter synthesis, regulation of body temperature, enzyme activity and energy metabolism. Iron also boosts brain function as the brain takes in about 20 percent of our blood oxygen.

Lysine Content
Quinoa is also a rich source of Lysine. Lysine is necessary to the body as it helps in tissue repair and growth of new tissues.

High Magnesium Content
Quinoa is extremely rich in magnesium. Magnesium is essential to the body due to its numerous benefits like transmission of nerve impulses, body temperature regulation, detoxification, energy production, and the formation of healthy bones and teeth.

Rich in Riboflavin
Quinoa is a good source of Riboflavin(B2) which provides a number of health benefits like improving energy metabolism within brain and muscle cells. It is known to help create proper energy production in cells.

High Manganese Content
Quinoa is a rich source of manganese. The manganese present in quinoa helps the body in a number of ways. It is an antioxidant, which helps to prevent damage of mitochondria during energy production. Manganese also helps in the protection of red blood cells and other cells from injury by free radicals.
