Raw food is surely good and has its own merits. Eating raw offers several benefits. But it doesn't mean that you need to shift to 100% raw foods. Actually, cooking was there since stone age. That is why our bodies have evolved to eat and digest cooked foods.
Yes, a new study found out that cooked food offers more energy compared to raw food. Some foods are better in their raw form and some foods digest well when they are cooked. So, a combination of both can help you get the best of the both worlds.
If you are confused, do this. Eat one meal a day in raw form. It can either be a salad or a juice. The other two meals in your day can be cooked foods. This way, you can get both raw and cooked foods.
Here are some more facts about cooked foods and raw foods.

Fact #1

Fact #3
Every step in the process of cooking seems to have a role in helping the body digest it. For example, even simple steps like cutting, slicing, mashing and even pounding can change the way your body derives energy from the food.

Fact #4
Heat can breakdown the food stuffs and this process will make the nutrients in them easily digestible. But wait. Overcooking will again reduce the nutrients in it.

Some vegetables like asparagus, carrots, spinach and tomatoes are better after cooking. However, it is better to eat them in their raw form too. A combination of raw and cooked foods is ideal because raw foods offer some benefits and cooked foods offer another set of benefits.

Fact #6
Some nutrients in raw foods cannot be digested or absorbed by the body. But when you cook those foods, your body will be able to digest them well. Lycopene in tomatoes is a good example. It gets absorbed well when cooked.

Fact #7
Many studies say that proteins, carbs and fats are better absorbed when they are cooked. Can you eat raw rice? Cooked rice is better, right?

Fact #8
Eat a raw carrot. Eat a cooked carrot. When you ate a raw carrot you had to chew a lot which means your body had to work hard to consume it. But when you eat a cooked one, you can effortlessly bite it and eat it.

Fact #9
Last but not the least, the best thing about cooking is it kills the microbes present in the raw foods. That way, it is safer to eat cooked foods. But again as said earlier, try to fill your plate with both cooked and raw foods to derive all the benefits.
