Some of the major minerals are calcium, phosphorous, potassium, sodium and magnesium. Zinc, iron and manganese belong to trace minerals.

The body produces skin, muscle and bone cells every day. It also is involved in several other functions on a daily basis. But to perform all this, the body requires raw materials.

1. Calcium:
The requirement of calcium in our body is 800 mg to 1300 mg. Calcium is important for the formation of cell membranes. It requires the base for building bones, muscles, heart and digestive system.

2. Phosphorous:
We need to consume about 800 mg of phosphorous on an everyday basis. This mineral is very important for the bone formation and for providing strength to the bones.

3. Potassium:
We require around 2500 mg to 4700 mg of potassium in our regular diet. Potassium helps in building muscles, maintaining body growth and for maintaining the electrical and cellular functions.

4. Sodium:
In our daily diet, we require about 1500 mg to 2500 mg of sodium. Sodium helps in regulating the total amount of water and pH level in the body. It also plays a vital role in nerve functioning and muscle contractions.

5. Iron:
Every day our body requires around 10 mg to 18 mg of iron. Iron is responsible for the conversion of blood sugar into energy. It is also required for the proper functioning of the immune system.

6. Magnesium:
Our body requires about 350 mg to 420 mg of magnesium in our diet. Magnesium helps to activate the enzymes and also regulate the electrolyte balance in the body.

7. Manganese:
The human body requires about 2500 mg of manganese. Manganese helps in improving the metabolic rate of the body. It also helps in digestion and in reducing the condition of hypertension.
