Monsoon is heartily welcomed by everyone when it comes as the season brings relief from the summer days. But with the cool wet season comes the ailments like diarrhea, food poisoning, dysentery and cholera, which are prevalent in the monsoon. It is very important to have nutrition diet food for a healthy lifestyle.

Due to high humidity, digestive system becomes weak so eating the right nutrition food during monsoon becomes a necessity. Not just that, it will help to cure various other monsoon ailments. Follow these nutrition tips during monsoon to stay away from health problems.

Nutrition tips during monsoon season:

  • Always have fresh food and clean water. Wash the fruits and vegetables properly to clean the dirt and bacteria from them. Leafy vegetables should be cleaned with more attention as it contains worms and larvae.
  • Prefer light nutrition diet food during monsoon like cereals and cook vegetables in minimum oil. Oily food is difficult to digest.
  • Bitter vegetables like neem, bitter gourd, turmeric, pointed gourd (parwal), cluster beans, apple gourd (tinda) and fenugreek are the most preferable nutrition diet food during monsoon.
  • Avoid oils which are made of mustard, peanut and sesame seeds.
  • Don's eat less or too much. It is best to eat in moderation to keep the digestive system at ease.
  • Avoid excessive coffee and tea as it dehydrates the fluid in the body. One can add ginger powder or mint leaves in the tea to change the taste and stay healthy too.
  • Garlic, pepper, asafoetida (hing), ginger, jeera powder, turmeric and coriander are nutrition food in the monsoon as they are easily digestible.
  • Non-vegetarians should prefer soups and strews. Avoid curries, fish and meat.
  • Have steamed salads instead of the raw ones as the vegetables contain many bacteria which will not die after washing them.
  • To avoid water retention do not eat sour food like pickles, tamarind and chutneys which add zing to the meal but become heavy on the body during monsoon.
  • To fight cold and cough, have fresh radish juice. Add pipli (an ayurvedic medicine to fight detoxication) and rock salt in warm water to reduce mucous formation. This can be the best natural cure for monsoon ailments.
  • Drink boiled or filtered water to keep the body free from water borne diseases.

So, apply these nutrition tips during monsoon in your diet to stay fit and enjoy the rainy season. Eat nutritious food and avoid roadside vendors' spicy chaats and fried items such as pakoras, the most famous evening snack of this season. Keep the house clean and protect it from inviting unwanted guests, mosquitoes.
