Eating Late At Night Can Lead To THIS Disorder

Posted By: Staff

All of us have heard the old wives tale about eating after 8 pm. Do not do it, they say, since what you eat can get automatically stored as fat in the body. Night-time eating is a real issue for millions of those who just cannot seem to stop binging before bedtime.

Individuals who are affected by the Night Eating Syndrome feel particularly compelled to eat a lot of high-carb, high-fat foods throughout the nighttime.

People suffering from this syndrome might even eat more food after the dinner time than at the dinner. These people eat very sparingly through the day, but stuff themselves during the night-time.

Some sufferers even find difficulty in sleeping simply because they cannot stop thinking about food. They may feel guilty and disgusted, or fearful even that another binge can soon happen.

A journal linked this recently designated eating disorder to anxiety, low rates of melatonin and elevated rates of cortisol through the night-time.

Sufferers were also more prone to have other eating disorders, sleep disorders and mood disorders such as depression.

To ensure that this does not happen to you, never go more than 3 hours with no little meal or snack. This might require you to move your dinner to a subsequent time, especially if you are likely to stay up late into the night.

If you eat dinner at 6 pm, but do not go to bed until midnight, you have six long hours, in which you've not eaten anything. This long gap without food could make you more prone to binge eating.

Individuals who binge through the night-time nearly entirely crave for foods that are full of sugar and fat. These comfort foods cause the brain to release serotonin, a substance that enhances the mood and makes it easier for you to fall asleep.

This is particularly tempting for those who fight with insomnia caused by obsessional ideas of food. You're far more susceptible to binge on easily comprehensible foods than to drive to the store and purchase them.

Health Dangers Of Eating Late At Night

Many people avoid exercising during the night because it can make them feel too full and stuffed with very less energy before bedtime. If you time it right, you can reap the appetite-suppressing effect of exercise and still get a good night's slumber.

This could leave you feeling too content to succumb to a night-time binging. There are different ways to trick your body into forgetting about food.

If you must snack, choose high-fibre foods like raw fruits or vegetables. Other night-time eaters should brush their teeth when they feel the need to binge eat.
