High-Carb Diet
Most Indian dishes are very high in carbohydrate content, such as rice, potatoes, sweets, etc. Rice is one of the staples of many states in India. Consuming a high-carb diet can cause obesity, diabetes and other metabolic disorders.
High Glycaemic Diet
As wheat dishes like chapattis are also consumed in India, it can be an unhealthy practice as wheat contains a high glycaemic level which can affect the gut and also the heart.
Why Women Need More Sleep Than Men?
Sweets
The Indian diet includes a lot of sweet dishes, even during the non-festive occasions. A diet high in sugar content is definitely unhealthy, as it can cause obesity, high cholesterol, diabetes, etc.
Baked Foods
As Indians, we are used to consuming a lot of bakery foods, like cakes, puffs and other baked items as snacks. This habit can also be extremely harmful for health and cause weight gain and high cholesterol.
Snacking
With a number of snacks like mixtures, fried traditional snacks like chakli, chivda, etc., available in India, snacking in between meals is also a common habit which can lead to weight gain and stomach problems.
Late Dinner
According to a survey, it was found that Indians have a very late dinner, compared to many other parts of the world. Most Indians tend to have dinner after 8 PM. This habit can lead to inefficient digestion and lead to many health problems. The ideal time to have is within 7 PM, to give the body enough time to digest.
Hospitality
Indians are famous for their hospitable nature and it is common for relatives and friends to offer us sweets and delicious dishes when we visit. So, sticking to diets and avoiding certain foods can be very hard in such a situation. This habit can also lead to over-eating and cause health problems.
Desk Jobs
Many people in India, especially the youth, have traditional desk jobs, and they are rather hectic, leaving them very little time for a proper lunch. They end up eating right at their desks, making way for belly fat and heart conditions.
Vegetarian Diet
Many Indians follow a vegetarian diet, due to religious reasons. While a vegetarian diet is healthy, it can also cause protein deficiency and so, enough protein must be added to the diet.
Lack Of Greens
Most Indian meals include a lot of carbs and wheat, but not enough leafy greens. The fibre in leafy greens is important for a healthy digestion.
