Bharwan/Stuffed Fish Recipe

Fish is a healthy seafood that offers many health benefits. The nutrient rich seafood is one of the best sources of Omega-3 fatty acids and essential vitamins and minerals. In coastal regions, fish is used as a core ingredient for preparing meal. There are many types of fish that can be used for cooking. Tuna, salmon, sardines, rainbow, catfish, herrings etc are healthy fish types that are used for cooking.

We have already discussed the recipe to prepare stuffed fish curry for main course earlier. So, today we would like to share the fried bharwan fish recipe. This recipe is a great treat in this season. You can have it with a cup of hot tea/coffee or team it as a side dish with rice. The crunch and stuffed fish is filling and delicious at the same time. Bharwan fish, stuffed seafood:

Bharwan/Stuffed Fish Recipe

Serves: 2-3
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • Catfish- 1 (medium sized)
  • Potatoes- 3 (boiled and mashed)
  • Onion- 1 (finely chopped)
  • Ginger- 1 inch (grated)
  • Green chillies- 2-3 (sliced)
  • Bengal gram flour/besan- 1 cup
  • Lemon juice- 1tsp
  • Red chilli powder- 1tsp
  • Vinegar- ½ tsp
  • Butter- 1tbsp
  • Bread crumbs- ½ cup
  • Cumin seeds- 1tsp
  • Oil- 1 cup (for frying)
  • Coriander leaves- 2tbsp
  • Water- 2-3 cups
  • Salt- as per taste

Procedure

  • Melt butter in a frying pan. Season with cumin seeds. When the seeds start to splutter, add the chopped onions, grated ginger and mashed garlic. Saute on a medium flame for around 2 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, make a semi-thick batter of besan, water, salt and red chilli powder.
  • When the onions look translucent, add salt, lemon juice, mashed potatoes and green chillies. Mix all the ingredients well. Cook for another 2 minutes and put the pan off flame.
  • Wash and clean the fish. Now cut the fish with a knife for stuffing NEEDS TO BE SLIT OR WHAT..EXPLAIN IN ONE LINE. Add the stuffed potato mixture and close the fish with your fingertips.
  • Heat oil in a frying pan. When the oil becomes hot, coat the bharwan fish in the batter and wrap with bread crumbs.
  • Slowly place fish into the pan. Fry on a medium flame till the fish turns brown and looks crisp.
  • Once the fish is cooked, gently take it out.

Bharwan fish is ready to eat. Garnish with copped coriander leaves and sprinkle little lemon juice.
