Why Should Pregnant Women Pop In Prenatal Medications?
Prenatal medications are super important for women before, during and after pregnancy. The prenatal pills should contain two elements, which the mothers-to-be and growing baby need, namely folic acid and iron.
Folic acid decreases the chance that a baby will be born with spina bifida, a series of birth defects that affect parts of the nervous system, including the brain and spinal cord.
And calcium, on the other hand, helps to improvise on the strength of the baby's bone formation.

Popping in calcium pills also helps pregnant women deal with oral problems, which are a common problem that 90 per cent of the women face during pregnancy.
On the other hand, prenatal medications consist of a variety of vitamins and minerals that help the baby get the desired nutrients, which will help in the healthy development of a baby.
According to experts, it is said that during pregnancy, a woman's daily intake requirements for certain nutrients such as folic acid (folate), calcium and iron will increase considerably, which is why she needs to take pills to balance it out.

Apart from calcium, iron and folic acid, these little important pills also contain vitamin D, which is important for the development of the baby's eyesight and skin.
The pill also contains vitamin B6, which helps to support various reactions that form the skin, blood, and the nervous system. Vitamin C is also present in the prenatal medication to support and maintain healthy skin and connective tissues.
A small amount of zinc is also present because zinc deficiency can lead to a low birth weight and malformations. Copper too is a part of the prenatal, as it helps in an all-round development for a baby.
Prenatals Versus A Healthy Diet
It's important for all pregnant women to remember that vitamins and supplements do not take the place of a healthy diet. Experts state that, pregnant women should eat multiple servings of fresh green vegetables and foods that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, as they help during the pregnancy period.
It is also advisable to speak to the doctors first before taking prenatal medications, as the doctors will prescribe vitamins and supplements based on the situation of the pregnant women.
Who should take prenatals?
Prenatal is referred to almost every pregnant woman. But they are specifically recommended for women who are suffering from certain blood disorders, women who are vegan and vegetarian, those who are lactose intolerant, women who have chronic disorders, who smoke or abuse substances and women who are pregnant with twins and multiples.
When is the best time to take prenatals?
It is necessary to take a prenatal medication even before you try to conceive. Popping the right pills, according to a doctor's advice, during pregnancy will help the growing foetus. And, some doctors would also prescribe pills even after you've given birth.
