Ramadan 2026 Fasting Timetable: City-Wise Sehri and Iftar Timings for March 16
Ramadan is the holy month of fasting for Muslims. During this period, Muslims in India practice fasting from dawn till sunset every day. The fast begins with Sehri (Suhoor), the pre-dawn meal eaten before the Fajr prayer, and ends with Iftar, the meal taken immediately after sunset.
Due to variations in the sunrise and sunset times in different locations, the timings of Sehri and Iftar vary from city to city. To avoid any discrepancies, Muslims in each city follow a Ramadan calendar.
Here's a look at the approximate Sehri and Iftar timings for March 16, 2026, in major Indian cities (IST).
Sehri and Iftar Timings on March 16, 2026 (India)
- Delhi: Sehri - ~5:12 AM, Iftar - ~6:31 PM
- Mumbai: Sehri - ~5:34 AM, Iftar - ~6:50 PM
- Lucknow: Sehri - ~5:01 AM, Iftar - ~6:17 PM
- Hyderabad: Sehri - ~5:12 AM, Iftar - ~6:30 PM
- Kolkata: Sehri - ~4:45 AM, Iftar - ~5:59 PM
- Chennai: Sehri - ~5:05 AM, Iftar - ~6:22 PM
- Bengaluru: Sehri - ~5:16 AM, Iftar - ~6:33 PM
Note: Timings may vary slightly depending on local mosque announcements and calculation methods.
Why Sehri and Iftar Timings Change Every Day
Sehri and Iftar times shift by a few minutes each day during Ramadan because they depend on sunrise and sunset timings, which gradually change throughout the month.
Since India has a large geographical area, the rising sun reaches the eastern cities, such as Kolkata, a little earlier than the western cities, such as Mumbai. This leads to a slight variation in the fasting and eating times.
Importance of Sehri and Iftar During Ramadan

Sehri and Iftar meals have great significance from a spiritual and physical point of view.
- Sehri: It is a pre-dawn meal that helps provide nourishment and energy for a long day of fasting.
- Iftar: The fast is broken with dates and water after sundown, followed by prayer and a meal with family and congregation.
Ramadan fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam, which emphasises self-control, reflection, giving, and improvement.
Ramadan in India
Ramadan is normally 29 to 30 days long, depending on the sighting of the crescent moon, and ends with the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr.
This month also sees the mosques arranging nightly prayers (Taraweeh), the preparation of traditional meals of Sehri and Iftar, and people coming together for charity and kindness.
