Vomiting, commonly referred to as morning sickness, occurs due to an increase in the oestrogen levels, low blood sugar counts and intolerance to certain smells, colours and flavours.

Tweaking one’s lifestyle a bit would do wonders for the mom-to-be. Listen to your body and take adequate rest at frequent intervals. Do not hurry to get up as soon as you are awake but roll over, enjoy the silent moments and then get out of bed. Wear loose-fitting clothes.
Beat The Stress
Take your mind off your nausea. The more anxious you feel, the more stressed out you are likely to be. Divert the mind and engage it in healthy pursuits or pastimes. Solve a Sudoku, crack a crossword, read a book, take a walk or simply play cards.

Cut The Spice
Avoid foods with strong flavours and smells as also spicy and oily foods. Say no to tea and caffeine and eat small, frequent meals. Drink plenty of liquids or plain water. Just be sure to avoid hurry, worry and curry.

Raid The Kitchen Shelf
There are many home remedies to cure vomiting in pregnancy. Ginger is an amazing remedy. Half a teaspoon of ginger juice mixed with half a teaspoon of honey and lemon juice should work wonders. A pinch of cinnamon powder and honey acts as a cure as well. So too is a pinch of powdered clove and honey. Mint and anise seeds act against the vomiting sensation.
Track The Trigger
What holds good for one may not work for another. It is important to make a note of what scents and flavours trigger the feeling. A harmless scent may actually set off a fresh episode of vomiting. So, it is best to maintain a personal note and avoid them.

Snatch A Sniff
Some scents can actually help stave off the feeling, like the smell of a lemon rind or an orange peel. Carry a lemon when you feel the need to sniff on the aromatic fragrance of the lemon, which is sure a calming experience.

Ditch The Digital
The flicker of the computer’s monitor can also cause vomiting sensations. Try and avoid using the computer completely or reduce its use drastically. Remember, nothing is more important at this point of time than you and your baby.

These tips on how to deal with vomiting during pregnancy is only for those with moderate or mild bouts. Caution should be exercised by those who go through extreme vomiting. The condition is known as hyperemesis gravidarum and may lead to malnutrition and dehydration, and this requires medical intervention. So, speak up before things spiral out of control.
