During pregnancy, it is important to have a nutritious and balanced diet to maintain yourself healthy. When you are pregnant, your body poses a greater risk to get infected quickly.
Like many other diseases, certain types of food poisoning during pregnancy can become a threat to yourself and to your unborn, if it is not treated properly.
Fruits To Eat During Pregnancy
Generally, food poisoning during pregnancy will not have any adverse effect on your baby, but sometimes it can cause miscarriage, premature childbirth, or even death of the newborn child.
So, how to deal with food poisoning in pregnancy as it is an important matter that needs to be dealt seriously.
A bacteria called listeria is usually found in top soil and water can also be seen in vegetables, meat, dairy products and in some processed foods.
Tips For Eating Regularly During Pregnancy
These bacteria do not create any major conditions in healthy people, but for pregnant women it can cause abortion, serious infections to the newborn or even stillbirth.

Let us look at some guidelines to prevent food poisoning during pregnancy and above all how to deal with food poisoning in pregnancy.
Wash Vegetables And Fruits
Never eat unwashed fruits or vegetables as it might contain listeria, the bacteria which causes food poisoning and severe side effects. Make sure to wash the vegetables and fruits thoroughly before eating raw or while making salads.

Personal Hygiene
Wash your hands before and eating food and after using toilets. Thoroughly clean the cooking vessels, cutting boards and knives in hot soapy water to prevent bacteria from residing in it which causes food poisoning.
Avoid Unpasteurized Milk
Do not use unpasteurized milk and milk products as it contains a bacteria called listeria that causes listeriosis, a serious type of food poisoning during pregnancy.
It is safe to include cheeses like mozzarella and not use cheeses made from unpasteurized milk.

Shop & Store Safely
Take necessary steps to shop, store and serve foods in a proper manner to prevent contamination. When you are in doubt, never taste any food that you suspect, particularly, during pregnancy.
Even though the food does not have any foul smell, it still can be contaminated.

Check Labels
Always make it a habit to follow the labels on food packaging. Follow the instructions on the label to use the food and to store it.
Consult Your Physician
How to deal with food poisoning in pregnancy is also equally important as preventing it. Once if you think that you have developed food poisoning, immediately consult your physician.
The doctor will do the necessary tests to confirm food poisoning and if it is listeriosis then he will prescribe antibiotics.

Dehydration
Vomiting and diarrhoea will cause you to lose more body fluids. This will result in dehydration. So, if you are pregnant, then drink plenty of fluids and take oral re-hydration powder to keep yourself hydrated.
