Foods That Help In Recovering After A Childbirth
Becoming a mother is a feeling like none other. When a woman becomes a mother, she becomes complete, especially if she has always dreamed of becoming a mother one day.
But the process of childbirth is very hard on the human body. The physical, emotional and hormonal changes that happen in a woman's body during pregnancy and childbirth are immense.
The childbirth and its associated pain is something that is called the most painful natural experience. Giving birth to a baby is one of the most risky and dangerous processes that the human body goes through.
During pregnancy, the mother-to-be consumes a lot of foods that are good for the baby. She also takes care to avoid the foods that may cause harm to the baby in her womb. When the baby has finally come out, the new mother should spend time to take care of herself.
The body would be extremely tired and needs to heal itself. Ample rest is also important for the physical, emotional and mental well-being of the mother.
Only if the mother is healthy will she be able to take care of her newborn. Right nutrition in the right kind of food is very important and essential. In this article, we have listed some of the foods that are extremely good for the new mother who is recovering from childbirth. Take a look and make sure to include these in your diet if you are a new mother recovering from the childbirth pain.
Oats
Oats is a rich source of carbohydrates, fibre, calcium, iron and proteins. The fibre in oats will help you to prevent constipation during the recovery days. You may eat the oats by making porridge, khichdi or upma. Add fruits and dry fruits to up the taste and nutrition levels further.
Turmeric
Turmeric has been used for its healing properties since the ancient times. It helps in wound healing, reduction of inflammation and prevention of allergies. It is filled with essential nutrients such as Vitamins C and B6. It also has potassium, manganese and magnesium. It is already used heavily in Indian cooking. For the best results, boil a spoon full of turmeric in milk and drink it when warm. You may add a little honey or sugar if you wish.
Ginger Or Dry Ginger
The powder made from dried ginger or the fresh ginger is very beneficial when used after pregnancy. It has an anti-inflammatory action, which helps in the recovery after childbirth. Saunth ke ladoo or ladoos made from dry ginger powder are commonly served to new mothers. You may also add a little dry ginger powder to your meals for good results.
Lentils
Lentils and pulses are considered to be an excellent source of protein, vitamins and minerals. They are so rich in protein that vegetarians use these as a substitute for the protein obtained from non-vegetarian food. The dals can be cooked and had in the form of mildly spiced curries, soups and sweet dishes like halwa. Masoor dal and moong dal are very good for a recovering mother, as they are easily digestible.
Carom Seeds
Carom seeds are traditionally a must-use food ingredient after the delivery. It removes problems of constipation, indigestion and gas. It increases the production of breast milk. It also promotes the contraction of the uterus and helps it to get back to its original form. It is a very effective antibacterial and antifungal ingredient. It has antioxidant properties too. Add carom seeds to your parathas and halwas. It can be used to even flavour various curries too. Some new moms boil it with water and drink it for a better and faster recovery as well.
