Meet Vijay Nischal: At 85, This Viral Dadi Is Winning Hearts With Words And Food Inspired From Her Childhood
From Palak Pakoda to Imli Chutney to Shahi Toast, she is making us salivate with her delicious food recipes. In one month, she has become viral and has garnered 1.5 lakh followers simply because of her humility and delicious recipes, which are inspired from her childhood.
Meet Vijay Nishal, who at 85 has started 'Dadi Ki Rasoi' on Instagram and it is going viral for all the right reasons.

She started cooking for her father as a little girl and now it is her grandson who insisted she start her own cooking channel. In one of her videos, dadi says that she has never imagined that she will get so much love from so many people in such a short span of time.
I have never imagined that I will become so popular, so fast and it surprises me, how I am getting all the love from viewers,' says Nischal in an interview with TheBrownishBros.
She has never been part of something very adventurous but takes immense pride in staying simple and grounded, something which she holds on to every day. 'Our life was about going to school and coming back home. There was nothing else. Apart from that, we used to play a lot of traditional games such as Gilli Danda, Stapu, Inggoorcha, khokho, and kabaddi. We never saw any difference between boys and girls and believed everyone could do everything. This is something I carry with me even today.'
A Hindi medium school student, in an interview, says that In 1952 when JANA GANA MANA was sung as the national anthem, by the Government of India, there was an order to practice the national anthem, and therefore, a group of singers came to our school and they selected and trained a few students. This triggered her interest in singing, and theatre as well.
'Purdah system was very prevalent during that time and therefore, no cameramen were allowed to enter the premises or shoot any photo of girl students,' recalls Nischal. So, being in front of the camera, which has never happened before for her is a big thing, she says.
Before she tried her hands in the culinary world, Nischal was also associated with a radio channel in Hyderabad and has an interest in poetry, sewing, and stitching as well. However, today, cooking has totally become her thing and she loves engaging with food every single day.
'I keep adding new recipes on my channel because cooking is my passion,' says Nischal.
To her audience, she says, if you are physically fit and have the capacity to work then keep doing what you do best till the very end.'
However, it is the Superpower question that totally won our hearts in the end. On being asked 'what superpower she wishes to have', dadi says, 'I have never thought in that direction. I am a common person, and I want to remain that way because there are some feelings that everyone can resonate with, if you become a hero of some sort and have a superpower, then you are at the top and alone and everyone is left behind. So, I want to stand together with everyone and keep doing what I do best.'
