Amma: You Made My Life!

When I thought of writing a Mother’s Day special article, the first thing that came to my mind was: Am I going to pen anything new or something unique which makes others feel jealous about my mother? But I was consciously convinced that it was not possible because the god’s creation, mother - an epitome of love, care, affection; does not change from person to person. Like every mother, my mother has done best things in my life and found her happiness in my happiness. On this special mother's day, I would like share a few things, which I have kept within me since a long time.
Amma, if I am writing something today in English, it is only because of you. Appa wanted all his sons to study in our mother tongue - Kannada, it was you who convinced him to enroll us in an English medium school. I still remember you sitting with me teaching six subjects all in English. Through constant teaching, you learned the language and at one stage you were more fluent than us. Your learning ability will remain the biggest inspiration for me. Mama, have you ever thought of your son ending up in writing career and that too, in English? I bet, you would not have thought simply because my elementary and high school marks were a nightmare. Isn’t it?
Every son say that his parents, especially mother is his pillar of strength but in my case you have not been. Really! Rather you have been a hardest person who wanted me to construct my own pillars and taught me to prepare myself for the toughest future ahead. Amma, your words were too sharp to digest and until I landed in Bangalore, I did not understand why you were tough at times. Those lessons will remain with me forever.
Amma, your innocence at times bring a smile on my face. Do you remember when I said that I wished to watch a Kannada film titled A (starring Upendra). You gazed at me strangely and said you should not watch such movies! Come on mother, I was not grown up and I was just 12-year old. How could you think that a kid of my age would come to a mother and say that he wants to watch adult movies? May be, the modern day kids might come up with those ideas, but a country folk like me, who was not exposed to such stuffs at least till 17, would never approach his mother.
Mom, you have sculpted every second, minute, day of your life for my better future. I just want to end by saying that people believe that in every grain of rice, our name is written by god, and in my case, you have written it. Love You Mom! This is a special dedication for you on this Mother's Day! Be with me at every step of my life....
