100 theater groups in Natyamela
Kolkata, Nov 21 (UNI) The 6th Natyamela would be held at the auditorium of Nandan-Bangla Akademi-Rabindra Sadan campus, Madhusudan mancha and Girish Mancha from Nov 23 to 30.
In a press conference here, Natyamela General Secretary Tapan Bandopadhyay said this year's Natyamela will be inaugurated by eminent threatre personality and playwright Mohit Chattopadhya on November 23 at the Jnanesh Mukhopadhyay Mancha, a specially erected auditorium in the lawns of Rabindra Sadan, in memory of the departed artiste.
He said the 100 threatre groups likely to participate in the festival there are some very well known groups of Kolkata, some selected groups from the districts, and one each from Allahabad, Secunderabad and neighbouring country Bangladesh.
We will also have the privilege of watching a production, a life-sketch of Sadat Hussein Manto, by an Indian member of the 'Flying Fish' a group from Germany, he added.
He also said 32 full length play, 45 short play, 19 street drama and intimate theatre 4 would be held at the Natyamela.
The committee also decided that as a mark of respect for the legendary lighting designer Tapas Sen that for these eight days of Natyamela the entire Rabindra Sadan-Bangla Akademi-Nandan complex will be named as Tapas Sen Prangan, he said.
West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest and Mayor Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya will be the guest of honour of the opening day.
