Once you notice the freezer getting way too cold and building up on a lot of ice, defrosting your refrigerator is the only option to save your food stored in it and help your refrigerator to last longer too. The other possible way of knowing that you need to defrost is when your freezer stops to cool the food which is stored.
When you do not defrost the refrigerator, there are chances that your appliance can have a short circuit and blow up in flames. Therefore, defrosting the refrigerator once in a month for recent models and twice in a month for the old models should help. Post defrosting, clean your refrigerator to keep your food fresh. There are some tips to defrost a refrigerator in the most simple ways. If you follow these tips, you are certainly going to have a clean and sparkling refrigerator.

Switch The Refrigerator Off
The first step to defrost a refrigerator is to switch the electricity off. You are going to use water to clean the freezer and refrigerator. Therefore, you need to be careful with the power.

Empty Only The Freezer
Start to empty the freezer gently. Do not pull out any container from the base of the freezer if it is encircled with ice. Let it stay in for a few minutes and as it begins to defrost, remove it.

Scrape Out The Ice
One tip to defrost a refrigerator is to not dig in the ice using a sharp object as it can puncture the walls of the freezer. Wear a pair of rubber gloves and use your hands to scrape out the ice.

Now Empty The Bottom Refrigerator
As the top is over, move to the bottom of the refrigerator. Clear out the bottom of the refrigerator and remove the storage units as well.

Wipe It With A Clean Cloth
Now, using a clean wet cloth, wipe the inside of the refrigerator and the freezer. You have to make sure that you do not press on to the walls of the refrigerator as it is delicate.

Dry It Down With Tissue
The tip to defrost refrigerator is to wipe or dry it down using a tissue roll. As soon as you defrost the fridge, keep the roll ready to clean it after the wet cloth is used.

Hot Water In The Freezer
One of the tips to defrost a refrigerator is to make sure that all the ice is removed. If there is still some ice remaining, you need to place a bowl of hot water in the freezer and speed up the melting.

Hot Water In The Refrigerator With Lemon
To make your refrigerator smell great, you need to add a pinch of lemon juice to the hot water which is in the refrigerator and keep the door closed for at least 10 minutes.

Wash the Units With Vinegar Solution
During the 10 minutes, wash the storage units with vinegar mixed with water. This will help to remove food stains from the units if any.

Re-insert The Units
When the units are dry, place them carefully into the refrigerator. Remove the hot water bowls from the fridge and close it for some time. Switch on the power and after 10 minutes, begin to re-insert your food into the refrigerator.
