Reasons Why You Should Not Spend More Than 10 Minutes On The Toilet
We are so accustomed to taking our phones with us when we go to the bathroom.
In a global survey, 73% of respondents admitted to using their phones on the toilet or while standing at the urinal, regardless of their age or gender. The percentage is even higher among younger people (ages 18 to 29), who admitted to using their phones 93% of the time [1].

If you think that spending more time on the toilet will give you some "me-time," or some reading time, think again.
Because experts say that spending excessive amounts of time (more than 10 minutes) on the toilet can cause a variety of problems.
Toilet Time: Why You Shouldn't Spend More Than 10 Minutes
Here are some of the main reasons why you should not spend more than 10 minutes on the toilet:
1. Prolonged sitting on the toilet can cause haemorrhoids. Sitting for extended periods of time on the toilet puts pressure on the veins in your rectum, which can cause them to swell and become inflamed.
This can lead to haemorrhoids, which can cause pain and discomfort. To avoid this, it's important to not stay on the toilet for too long. Take breaks if needed and stand up after a few minutes [2].
2. Long toilet sessions can lead to urinary tract infections. When you sit for a long time, bacteria can build up in your urethra, leading to an infection. To reduce your risk, try to limit your toilet sessions to 10 minutes or less. Also, make sure to clean yourself thoroughly to remove any bacteria to avoid the risk UTIs.
Finally, drink plenty of fluids throughout the day to keep your urine diluted and flush out any bacteria [3].

3. Excessive toilet time can waste water. If you spend more than 10 minutes on the toilet, you may be using more water than necessary.
4. Too much time on the toilet can cause a disruption to your daily routine. If you spend more than 10 minutes on the toilet every time you go, it can interfere with your daily activities, such as going to work or school.
5. It can be a sign of a more serious health issue. If you find yourself spending more than 10 minutes on the toilet, it may be a sign of a more serious health issue, such as IBS or Crohn's disease [4].
People with IBS or Crohn's may have persistent diarrhoea or constipation, which can lead to prolonged toilet visits. If this is the case, it is important to see a doctor for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan.

On A Final Note...
For all of these reasons, it is important to not spend more than 10 minutes on the toilet. Doing so can help to prevent health problems and keep your daily routine on track.
