Stress, sedentary lifestyle and lack of exercise are among the major causes for hypertension and this has been on the rise over the past few years.
A recent survey conducted by Praja Foundation has revealed that the number of hypertension cases have increased alarmingly at the national capital, Delhi.
As per the survey it has been reported that the number of hypertension cases in Delhi have increased from 3,22,510 in 2015 to 3,61,443 in 2016. For the survey a total sample size of 24,301 households was taken into consideration.
In addition to hypertension, the cases of diarrhoea were also on the rise. The cases of diarrhoea have increased from 5,64,416 in 2015 to 6,22,480 in 2016.

1. Healthy Diet:
Having a healthy diet is very important in order to prevent hypertension. Add a lot of fruits and vegetables, fibre-rich foods, especially those rich in potassium in your daily diet. Limiting the intake of excess calories, fat, and sugar helps prevent high blood pressure.
2. Cut Down On Salt Consumption:
It is very important to cut down on intake of salt. When there is too much of salt in the body, it retains the fluids in the body thus increasing the blood pressure.
3. Cut Down On Alcohol:
Alcohol contains calories which can lead to an increase in the blood pressure. Hence, it is very essential to cut down on alcohol consumption to prevent hypertension.
4. Exercise Regularly:
Physical exercise is very important to keep your blood flow in check. This helps to prevent hypertension. Half an hour of walking or jogging in the morning or even in the evening helps in keeping your blood pressure under check.
5. Maintaining Your Body Weight:
It is important to keep your body weight under check in order to prevent high blood pressure.
