Ovarian Cancer Day: Know About The Warning Signs; Are Women Over 30 At Risk?
Since 2013, the World Ovarian Cancer Coalition has been observing World Ovarian Cancer Day on May 8. This organisation has served as an official Strategic Advocacy Partner for the International Gynecological Cancer Advocacy Network, as well as an ally within it. World Ovarian Cancer Day 2023 theme is "No Woman Left Behind."

Ovarian cancer is a serious health condition that can be difficult to diagnose. In India, ovarian cancer is the second leading cause of death due to cancer among women. This is due to the lack of early diagnosis and the availability of treatment, which is often too expensive for the average person [1].
Additionally, there is a lack of awareness among people in India about the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer, which can make it even more difficult to diagnose. Regular health check-ups and screening tests can help detect the condition in its early stages.
Warning Signs Of Ovarian Cancer
Knowing the warning signs of ovarian cancer is important for early detection and treatment [2].
Common warning signs of ovarian cancer include:
1. Bloating: If you experience bloating that is persistent, this could be a sign of ovarian cancer.
2. Abdominal pain: Pain in the abdomen that is not associated with menstruation or constipation could be a sign of ovarian cancer.
3. Abnormal bleeding: Bleeding that is not related to your period could be a sign of ovarian cancer.
4. Changes in urination: If you experience frequent urination or difficulty in urinating, this could be a sign of ovarian cancer.

5. Loss of appetite: A decrease in appetite could be a sign of ovarian cancer.
6. Feeling full quickly: Feeling full quickly when eating and not wanting to eat as much as normal could be a sign of ovarian cancer.
7. Sudden weight loss: Unintentional weight loss could be a sign of ovarian cancer.
If you experience any of these symptoms for two weeks or more, it is important to speak to your doctor right away.
Are Women Over 30 At An Increased Risk Of Ovarian Cancer?
Women over 30 are at an increased risk of developing ovarian cancer. This risk increases with age and is highest in women aged 50 or older.
- The incidence of ovarian cancer is higher in women with a family history of the disease, or who have had certain reproductive conditions.
- Women who have had breast or colon cancer have an increased risk of developing ovarian cancer [3].

Women over 30 should take steps to reduce their risk of ovarian cancer. These include regular testing for ovarian cancer, as well as maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly, and eating a balanced diet.
Women should also be aware of their family history, and talk to their doctor about any changes in their health.
