Healthy Ways To Eat Seeds
Seeds are the embryonic plant itself. It is considered the origin of nutrition. Seeds come in different shapes and sizes. When the plants produce the seeds, they are filled with high concentrations of proteins, vitamins, minerals, enzymes and oils. When you consider eating a very nutritional meal, all you have to do is to add seeds to it. Seed is life and is the living food.
Many seeds that are available in nature are edible. Most of the calories that we gain come from seeds, especially legumes and nuts. The other importance of seeds is that they provide for cooking oils, many beverages and spices and most commonly used as a food additive.
The seed embryo, also known as the endosperm, offers most of the nutrients. The commonly edible healthy seeds that are easily available are chia, hemp, pomegranate, flax and pumpkin seeds.
There are different ways in consuming seeds. It is understood that eating them raw is one of the healthy ways to eat seeds. When you cook the seeds the proteins, vitamins and minerals are denatured. If they are roasted, they move from being a living food to a dead food. It is not always easy to eat seeds raw. The following are a few ways to healthy ways to eat seeds.
In Salads
This can't be mentioned enough. The best way in eating healthy seeds is raw. This will help regain all the natural content and provide your body with all the nutrients. Tossing them in the salad can be one of the good healthy ways to eat seeds. Legumes and pomegranates are few of the many seeds that can be used in its natural form for salads.
Ground
Considering the taste, it is not always good to eat raw seeds. Another healthy ways to eat seeds is to grind them and store them in the refrigerator; this will not allow it to lose its nutrients and will be an ideal way to consume them. This can also be sprinkled in your cereals, yogurt and salad to add to the fibre content of your meal.
Mix Seeds and Nuts
Another healthy ways to eat seeds is to mix them with nuts. Toasting almonds and walnuts along with sunflower seeds and then placing them in the oven will give you a good nut and seed mix. This along with cinnamon and cumin will make a delicious combination. This will give you the nutrients of the seeds as well the energy of the nuts.
Soup
Another way of eating healthy seeds is in the form of soup. Seeds can be ground and be used in soups this can be in combination with any vegetables. Different seeds in their natural form can be roasted and ground and can be made into a porridge which is very healthy, especially for toddlers during their growing years.
Use as Dips
Though not the most healthy ways to eat seeds, this is also one of the ways seeds and nuts can be consumed. Peanut butter on bread, hummus, tahini(from sesame seeds) on crackers are different ways that can be used. Using different nuts and seed butters on your sandwich can also be another option in eating healthy seeds.
