Cancer is one disease that everyone dreads for. The moment you hear of the word cancer, it sends a sense of chill and you go numb. Though medical science has made lot of strides, but cancer is one disease that every fears of. If one fails to get the right treatment at the right time then it might turn fatal.
However, in what can be called as one of the most outstanding discoveries in recent times, scientists are in the process of developing an immune therapy based on blood cells from patients who have made "miracle" recoveries from cancer.
According to the scientists, this breakthrough could lead to a potential cure for millions living with the disease by next year.
For the therapy, scientists have involved neutrophil cells, that form part of the body's first line of defence against foreign invaders. Neutrophils are believed to kill cancer cells either directly by destroying them with chemicals or antibodies or indirectly by recruiting other immune system cells.
The researchers are now working on a way to extract the cancer-killing immune cells from donor blood and then multiply them by the million.
The study is now being carried on mice. We're not talking about simply managing cancer. We're looking at a curative therapy that you would receive once a week over five to six weeks," said Alex Blyth, Chief Executive of LIfT Biosciences, that is now preparing for early trials on patients.
Early results from tests conducted in the laboratory not only signal better treatment for cancer but also a potential cure that could be ready to test on patients as early as next year.
The trials on humans is likely to start in a year's time and will be conducted on 20-40 patients. The team is focusing first on pancreatic cancer.
Meanwhile, also learn about a few of the best foods to prevent cancer. Take a look.
Garlic contains an important ingredient called the allyl sulfur compounds that helps to stimulate the immune system and acts as a natural defenses against cancer. Garlic can be consumed in the form of supplements or it can be added to one's regular food.
2. Brazil Nuts:
Brazil nuts is one of the best available nuts. Brazil nuts are rich in selenium and mineral found in soil that helps in fighting the cancer cells effectively.
3. Cruciferous Vegetables:
Cruciferous vegetables are rich in phytochemicals, vitamins, minerals and fiber. Adding cruciferious vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage in your diet on a regular basis helps in fighting back cancer.

Having an adequate amount of vitamin D is very important for the body. Keep aside food supplements, but getting exposed to sun for about 10-15 minutes everyday is one of the best way to get the required amount of vitamin D for the body.
Vitamin D helps to reduce communication between cells, causing them to stop sticking together and allowing cancer cells to spread. This way it helps in preventing different form of cancer like breast, colon, prostate, ovarian, and stomach.
