10 Foods That Help To Bring Down The Uric Acid Level To Normal
If your uric acid level is high, then you need to check out for a few foods that will help reduce it. These foods help in bringing down the uric acid level.
Uric acid is produced by the natural breakdown of purine. Purine occurs naturally in the body and it is also present in the foods that we eat.
A high uric acid level occurs when the kidneys don't eliminate uric acid efficiently from the body.
Factors that cause the deposition of uric acid in the body include being overweight, too much alcohol consumption, intake of purine-rich foods, hypothyroidism, renal insufficiency, immune-suppressing drugs, certain diuretics, etc.

Abnormally high uric acid level in the blood is called hyperuricaemia. Elevated uric acid level can lead to the development of diseases such as gout and arthritis.
Protein-rich foods are the main culprits of increase seen in uric acid. Taking foods that contain less of purine is the key.
Along with taking medication, managing a healthy diet plan is also very important to avoid long-term complications of uric acid increase in the body. So, continue reading to know more on this.
Foods To Control Uric Acid Level:

1. Apple Or Apple Cider Vinegar
Malic acid, the main constituent of apple, helps to bring down the uric acid level to normal. It is recommended to add 1-3 tsp of apple cider vinegar to eight ounces of warm water and drink it 2 to 3 times daily. Consuming fresh apples will also give the same effect.

2. Olive Oil
Olive oil plays an important role among the foods that lower the uric acid level to normal. Olives or olive oil is found to have an anti-inflammatory action. You can consume olive oil by adding it to vegetables, salads or pastas.

3. Nuts
Low purine-based nuts like Brazil nuts, cashews, almonds, macadamia nuts and walnuts help to reduce the high uric acid level to normal, as they contain less than 40 mg of purine. Avoid taking peanuts, as they contain nearly 80 mg of purine per cup.

4. Lemon Juice
Citric acid is one of the best remedies to lower the elevated uric acid level. Lemon is an excellent source of vitamin C and citric acid. It is better to add squeezed lemon juice to one glass of warm water and have it twice or thrice daily.

5. Water
Drinking more water in a day will dilute the uric acid and thus alleviate the pain due to the deposition of uric acid crystals. It is advised to take a minimum of ten to twelve glasses of water per day. Also, try to include more fluids and water-rich fruits in your diet.

6. Baking Soda
Studies have found that baking soda is beneficial for lowering the uric acid levels to normal. It will maintain an alkaline condition in the body, which makes the uric acid more soluble and thus aids in its excretion. But don't use this method on a regular basis.

7. Cherries
Cherries play a significant role in the reduction of higher uric acid level. You can snack on canned cherries or take cherry fruit extract to gain this effect. The bioflavonoids, proanthocyanidine and anthocyanine present in the cherries help to prevent uric acid crystallization in the joints.

8. Purine-poor Vegetables
Vegetables that have a low amount of purine like broccoli, cucumber, tomatoes, etc., will give a good relief to the high uric acid sufferers. Veggies like potatoes or corns are also effective in reducing the level of uric acid. Carrot juice mixed with cucumber juice is an excellent drink for lowering the uric acid level in patients.

9. Vitamin C
Vitamin C has a marked effect in the reduction of higher uric acid level. Those who are suffering from a high level of uric acid should include vitamin C-rich fruits like guava, kiwi, oranges, tomatoes, etc., to their diet.

10. Chickpeas
Dietary intake of folate can help in reducing the higher uric acid level. Pinto beans, Lima beans, chickpeas, etc., are good sources of folate and so they are also considered to be one among the best foods that help to bring down the uric acid level to normal.
