Our bodies are very dynamic and ever-changing. What might seem normal can be a serious indication of an underlying disease. Therefore, it is very important to pay detailed attention to these changes for an early diagnosis.
The sedentary and fast-moving lifestyle doesn't really allow us to maintain a healthy and balanced life, hence leading to various life-threatening illnesses. But with an early diagnosis, your chances of survival almost increase by half.
So, all the women out there, pay close attention to these details and never ignore these symptoms that might lead to cancer as well!
#1 Breast Changes
Although most breast lumps are not an underlying sign of cancer, get your doctor to check that for you. Self-diagnosis is very dangerous and hence one should take utmost care before jumping into any conclusion. If there is skin dimpling, changes in the posture of the nipple or discharge, this might be serious. Your doctor will conduct the necessary tests and come up with suitable results and medications.
Although women are natural bloaters and there are various foods that can cause bloating; if the bloating persists for more than a week, it might be serious. If bloating is accompanied by weight loss, it is time to consult your doctor. Constant bloating is a major sign of various cancers, including breast, colon, ovarian or uterine cancer.
#3 Bleeding Between Periods
Spotting before or after your periods is not quite normal and you should consult your doctor if this keeps happening frequently. Although there are many other causes of spotting in between your cycles, your doctor would want to rule out the possibility of endometrial cancer, which is technically the cancer of the uterus lining. Also, bleeding after menopause is a warning sign and should not be taken lightly.
#4 Skin Changes
A change in the shape or size of a mole or changes in its colour can be an indication of skin cancer. Also, development of excessive moles can be an indication. Consult your doctor and go for a biopsy for dealing with this condition effectively.
#5 Blood In Your Pee Or Stool
This symptom is very scary in itself even if you don't have cancer. If the bleeding lasts for more than a couple of days, consult your doctor. Bloody stool can be a symptom of colon cancer. And needless to say, bloody urine is the first and foremost sign of cancer in the kidneys or bladders.
#6 Changes In Lymph Nodes
Lymph nodes are essentially the small bean-shaped glands around the body. They are very reactive to infections and change their shape with the slightest of infections. But cancers like Leukaemia or Lymphoma can cause the lymph nodes to swell and become tender. If your swelling lasts for a month, do consult a doctor.
#7 Trouble In Swallowing The Food
It is completely fine if you find trouble in swallowing the food occasionally but when it becomes regular, it is very alarming. If it is accompanied by vomiting and weight loss, it might be a sign of stomach cancer. An endoscopy is used to detect this kind of a cancer.
#8 Weight Loss Without Trying
If you are following a weight loss regimen, there is nothing to worry about. But if there is a sudden loss of over 10 pounds without any changes in your diet or exercise regimes, it can be an alarming sign of an underlying illness. It can either be due to thyroid or pancreatic cancer. It is the right time to consult a doctor and after running a few blood tests, you will know the cause.
Heartburn in itself is not a very pleasant or safe feeling. Too much food, stress or alcohol can cause these heartburns. If your symptoms don't get better in a few weeks' time, it is advisable to consult a doctor to find the underlying cause. Heartburn could imply a cancer of the stomach or of the ovaries. Persistent heartburn can also lead to throat cancer if not treated properly.
#10 Mouth Changes
If you are a smoker, watch out for coloured patches in your mouth or on your lips. These colours vary from yellow, grey to bright red. You could also develop a canker sore and these might be the signs of an oral cancer.
A persistent fever that stays on for a long time, even after you take the proper medication, could indicate leukaemia or blood cancer. You should consult a doctor and run the necessary tests.
Fatigue is a major sign of stress and body weakness. Owing to the hectic lifestyle, this is bound to happen. But extreme tiredness that is very persistent is not normal and should be checked properly. Talk to your doctor if you have extreme fatigue with other symptoms mentioned above to get an accurate diagnosis.
Most coughs tend to get treated on their own in a few weeks. But it is very important to keep a track of the time period and not ignore it if it persists for a longer time period. Especially if you are a smoker and cough blood, go to the doctor immediately. It is a very common sign of lung cancer.
Most cancers don't cause pain although the later stages might be agonistic, owing to the growing cancer cells. If the cancer has spread enough, it is going to cause pain in the bones. Ask your doctor about the symptoms if there is no specific underlying symptom that you noticed.
#15 Belly Pain And Depression
This is really rare, but belly pain can be depressing and a sign of pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer is a very genetic disease and you should not be worrying, unless it runs in your family!
Here are the alarming symptoms of cancer that a woman should never ignore and as the saying goes "prevention is better than cure", get an early diagnosis and even cancer can be cured.
