Thyroid Cancer And It's Three Types

The major threat of Japan radiation exposure is the occurrence of Thyroid Cancer. As the name suggests it is cancer of the thyroid gland, which is located on the front of the neck. The basic function of Thyroid gland is to regulate metabolism, heart rate, blood pressure, temperature and weight. There are three main types of this cancer. The types of Thyroid cancers are based on the cell of origin, appearance and characteristic.

1.Papillary Thyroid Cancer – This is the most common type and accounts of 70% - 80% of the total patients suffering it. It is diagnosed at the age of 30 -50 and women are more prone to it. The Papillary cancer has the tendency of spreading to the back of the neck. Being open to radiation exposure is one of the basic causes of Papillary cancer.

2.Follicular Thyroid Cancer – Follicular cancer too is prevalent more among women and constitute of 10% -15% of the crowd. It is diagnosed between the age of 40-50. The follicular Cancer can sprad to other parts of the body like blood vessels, bones and lungs.

3.Medullary Thyroid Cancer – This is not a very common cancer and the main cause is endocrine disorders. The best indication of Medullary cancer is the elevated calcitonin level. It mostly affects the age group between 40-50 and can grow up to effect the blood vessels.
