Goju Avalakki: South Indian Breakfast
If you are planning to have an authentic South Indian breakfast with the richness of fine blending of sweet, sour, spicy and salt. Then goju avalakki is the best option you can get. Goju avalakki or hulli avalakki (sour rice flakes) is one of the most popular breakfast dishes that is prepared in Karnataka.
Some of the main ingredients used in preparing goju avalakki are tamarind, jaggary and sambar powder and this is what makes dish different from other delicacies. Goju avalakki is not only known for its tangy taste but is also a favourite among all age groups. The taste of goju avalakki is so distinct that people who are not fans of curry leaves and groundnut can eat it without any hesitation.
Goju avalakki is the best breakfast for the winter season. A cup of hot coffee or tea after this will definitely makes this breakfast complete.

Serves: 4
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 20 minutes
Ingredients:
Rice Flakes - 1 big cup
Tamarind Juice - 2 tbsp
Jaggery - 2tbsp (powdered)
Turmeric - 1/2tsp
Sambhar Powder - 1tbsp
Oil - 1tbsp
Mustard - 1 tsp
Peanuts : half cup
Aesfotida-1 big pinch
Curry Leaves
Salt
Procedure:
-Grind the rice flakes for about 20 seconds (do not powder it).
-Wash the ground rice flakes and wash it, make sure you do not soak.
-Add a little water to the rice flakes and blend it with tamarind juice,
jaggery powder, turmeric, sambhar powder, salt and mix well.
-Keep it aside for about 7 minutes.
-Mix the contents again.Take a pan and heat oil.
-Add mustard seeds and let it splutter.
-Add peanuts, fry them till they turn red. Add curry leaves and a pinch
of aesfotida.
-Switch off the stove and add soaked rice flakes mix.
-Mix well on a low flame.
Garnish goju avalakki with grated coconut and coriander leaves if needed. Serve it with a cup of piping hot coffee.
