Chatpati Hariyali Tikki Recipe

Winter is just round the corner and the market is loaded with the variety of vegetables. The winter vegetables like carrots, turnips, radishes, green peas etc. are simply a treat to the senses. These vegetables can be cooked in a variety of ways and is relished almost by everyone. So, we thought to present a snack recipe for you this evening made with fresh green peas and spinach.

Chatpati hariyali tikki is a tangy snack recipe which is a must try for vegetarians as well as non vegetarians. This delightful snack is prepared using two healthy ingredients - spinach and green peas. Along with the health, the taste is taken care of by the spices which are added to it. The chat masala adds the tangy kick to this delicious snack.

Serves: 6-7 tikkis
Preparation time: 20 minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • Spinach- ½ sprig
  • Green peas- 1 cup (boiled)
  • Potatoes- 2 (boiled and peeled)
  • Green chillies- 2 (finely chopped)
  • Ginger- ½ inch piece (finely chopped)
  • Cornflour- ½ cup
  • Chat masala- 1tsp
  • Roasted cumin powder- 1tsp
  • Coriander leaves- 2tbsp (finely chopped)
  • Salt- as per taste
  • Oil- 2tbsp

Procedure

1. Wash and blanch the spinach leaves with salt and half a cup of water on medium flame for 7-8 minutes.
2. Switch off the flame, drain the water and keep it aside.
3. Take the boiled potatoes, boiled green peas, blanched spinach, ginger, green chillies, chat masala, roasted cumin powder, salt, cornflour, coriander leaves and mash well.
4. Mix all the ingredients properly and divide the mixture into 6-7 equal parts.
5. Take one part and shape it into a ball. Then press the ball between your palms to give it a shape of tikki.
6. Repeat it with rest of the mixture.
7. Heat oil in a non-stick pan and fry the tikkis on both sides on medium flame till they turn golden brown in colour.
8. Once done, transfer the tikkis to a serving platter and serve hot.

Chatpati hariyali tikkis are ready to be served. These tikkis taste best when served with coriander or mint chutney.
