Dhaba Style Mutton Curry Recipe
North Indian dishes are popular for being spicy and oily. Most of the curries and other side dishes are made very spicy and they taste delicious too. However, a North Indian meal is incomplete without the mention of dhaba food.
Dhabas are the small food joints that are generally located on the highways and footpaths. Dhaba style recipes are immensely popular in the Indian cuisine. In most of the households, women try to prepare several dhaba style dishes as they are extremely spicy, delicious and aromatic. Mutton curry is a favourite side dish that is served with boiled rice or rotis. You can try some different method to cook mutton curry. Mutton curry, dhaba style recipe:
Serves: 3-4
Preparation time: 20 minutes
Cooking time: 1 hour 20 minutes
Ingredients
- Mutton- 500gms (cut into medium sized pieces)
- Onions- 2 (chopped)
- Ginger- 1 inch (minced)
- Tomato puree- 1 cup
- Garlic- 5-6 pods (crushed)
- Green chillies- 2 (chopped)
- Red chilli powder- 1tsp
- Turmeric powder- 1tso
- Coriander powder- 1 ½tsp
- Kashmiri degi mirch- 1tsp
- Sugar- ½tsp
- Cumin powder- 1tsp
- Garam masala- ½tsp
- Cinnamon stick- 1 inch
- Cloves- 2-3
- Cardamom- 2
- Bay leaf- 1
- Salt- as per taste
- Ghee- ½ cup
- Water- 2 cups
Procedure
- Heat 3tbsp ghee in a pot. When the ghee melts, fry the mutton pieces on a medium flame till it turns brown. Once that is done, keep it aside.
- In the same pot, melt 3-4tbsp ghee. Season with bay leaf, cardamom, cinnamon and cloves.
- After a few seconds, add the onions, ginger, garlic and green chillies. Saute on a medium flame for 2-3 minutes.
- Meanwhile, mix of turmeric powder, salt, coriander powder and cumin powder in a bowl. Add little water to make a thick paste. Add it to the pot and mix well.
- Now add the mutton pieces. Pour water and mix all the ingredients. Bring it to boil for few minutes.
- Cover and cook the mutton pieces for one hour on a low flame.
- Remove the cover and add tomato puree, Kashmiri degi mirch, garam masala and sugar. Cook uncovered for another 5 minutes. Put the pan off flame.
Mutton curry in dhaba style is ready to eat. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve it hot with rice or rotis.
