Tirukkural-On Virtue-Family Life-Kural 47

Iyalpinaan ilvaalkkai vaalpavan enbaan
Muyalvaarul ellaam talai.
My translation of this Kural is based on Rajaji's:
The householder who by right conduct has made a success of life
Is the best of all of aspirants of virtue (Aram).
The basic 'Aram' (virtue) of all is really the householder's as all other aspirants to virtue depend on him ultimately. The two important expressions here are 'Iyalpinaan' and 'Muyalvaarul'. The first projects an amplification of the manner in which the householder should live his life, along the path of love ad virtue outlined in Kurals 44 and 45; while the second refers to all aspirants for the state of 'Aram', to whichever category they belong.
This is the generally accepted interpretation of the latter expression, but Kalingar alone would explain it as referring to the numbers of the three lower orders among the ashramites. It is not necessary to confine aspirants of virtue among these three groups alone. They may be found among these groups alone. They may be found among others too.
