Despite Pain And Blood...

Chinmayananda
Back in the early 1950s, when Gurudev, Swami Chinmayananda was walking up onto the speaker's platform during a Yajna, He had to climb up wooden stairs leading to the platform. One step had a nail protruding from' it, but nobody had noticed it. Gurudev walked up onto the platform, sat down cross-legged, and gave his talk for one and half-hours.

At the end of the talk, he would usually get up and walk out;' only after His exit would others begin to leave. But that day, He did not leave first. Instead He said, 'Hari Om, You can all disperse."The listeners all looked at Him and wondered what was happening, but they prostrated and walked off. Swamiji remained on the platform. Somebody went up to him and asked, "Swamiji, what happened?"

He said, "I want to get up, but 1 cannot."

We all walked up to Him to see what was wrong.

The whole side of his left leg was covered completely with blood.
It was from the nail in the stairs.

Supported by others, He got up from His seat, saying, "I don't know what it is. It's paining"

The cloth of his garment was struck to his leg; The blood had been oozing from His leg since the beginning of the talk; yet, He had continued the talk to the end. No one had been aware of any sign of pain or change in Gurudev, during the talk. This is true non-awareness of the body!
