Zen Story, Dead or Alive

A young man once approached his master with a bird that he caught behind his back. In order to play a prank on the old master he asked thus : Master is the bird dead or alive?

He schemed to let go the bird in the air if the mater claimed the bird to be dead or to wring its neck if he said it was alive.

The master however answered : "The solution lies in your hand!"
